well spotted !
in storage one got trodden on by person unknown  ... and so I'm having it straightened & both rechromed . These early ones are brass ...

I used some sugru to make end caps to sill trims and they look very good but have yet to put them on as the motor is going back to SMS autospray for finishing off cutting/polishing etc.

Rich,
Very well done for getting to the stage of having the car back on the road. I would suggest ringing Club Lotus and asking to speak to Alan Morgan about your valuation, they will happily give you his mobile number if he's not there and he always is pleased to talk Lotus. your valuation should be a minimum ?25000 for agreed value, probably a bit higher wouldn't hurt and wouldn't be out of the ball park for a good +2 these days.

I still highly recommend RH Specialist cars and have just renewed my own insurance at ?28,000 agreed for my +2 and ?45,000 for my S4 https://www.rhspecialistinsurance.co.uk they are the only people I trust to do properly transparent retention of salvage and full agreed value insurance for our cars, whether they be concourse original, nice daily drivers or modified abominations like mine.

More photos appreciated......

well we go back 2 years when it all started outside my house when a 19 yo texting his girlfriend ran into the back of the parked +2....

img_0537.jpg and
here's the donor shell being matched up to the chassis. It is number 778 to my original number 784... probably made the same week in spring 1968.
you can see roof-rail in position being checked before shell went off to SMS for back to gelcoat respray . By this time all the donkey-work on the shell underside had been completed and all bobbins were A1.

Many many hours later & with the free help of my two sons Chris & Tom (when they came home for the odd weekend ) & Mary (Mrs) making the tea and sandwiches :D we have it on the road ... but still some little cosmetic things to do.

Super congratulations, Rich!!! Looks SO good! You must really be pleased and relieved (although I hear of people feeling a little depressed after a restoration, as their "friend" - the job of restoring - is now finished/gone!).

Brilliant. Enjoy. And please tell us what the agreed-upon valuation is with your insurer.

Regards,

Randy
(still assembling . . . . !)

I see you have the kinks in the corners of the boot gasket. I have a hot tip I've used very successfully (not my idea). PM me and I'll share it

Rich, very well done, a project back on the road with just some details to complete. :D

Good to see photos of a car similar in age to mine, always helps with the motivation.

Excellent job Rich.
Can't beleive it's two years since the 'accident'. What happened to the texting youth?
Kev.

well Randy , to answer your question, I just had the form back from Alan Morgan with a valuation of ?29k which makes me a little happier if ever the worst was to happen (again).
