Early Plus 2 registry - interested?

I have been thinking of creating some form of registry for the earliest Plus 2s (i.e. with Carello lights etc) - I have No. 168 and it might be fun (and feasible!) to try and get as many of these on record as possible - would welcome thoughts.

Hi David

It has mostly been done on http://www.elanregistry.org/list_cars.php?PME_sys_fm=0&PME_sys_fl=0&PME_sys_qfn=&PME_sys_sfn[0]=5&PME_sys_sfn[1]=2&PME_sys_sfn[2]=3&PME_sys_sfn[3]=4

Although your car is not on there; maybe you could add to this one?

Thanks Jason - was aware of this registry but assumed that as there are only about a dozen of these early cars listed that it must be significantly incomplete - interested to know how many might still be around.

Hi I have been looking at this post with some interest. I have a plus 2 on a j plate so around 1970 I think the number of the car is 0295L but how is the unit number on the engine plate translated? I have 10 numbers and one letter. I have checked the register already set up but mine does not fit with the id lettering, can someone help? Cheers andy

My car now added to the registry, encourage other early Plus 2 owners to do the same.

Andy, at the start of 1970 Lotus changed the way in which they recorded VINs. Your car Vin will be 7010##0295L, where 70 is the year, 10 is the month and ## is the batch no. L indicates a +2 for the Domestic market.

The early cars referred to above were recorded as 50/0123, being the very earliest +2s produced in 1967.

I am considering purchase of a +2 at the moment, which is 50/0389.

Comparing with other cars on both existing registry sites I conclude it was manufactured somewhere late summer 1967.

It has the 2x2 dials dahboard, later adjustable seats, Lucas rear lights and big chrome strip front glass.

Does this count as an early car?

Early cars with the Alfa rear lamps are cars uptp 50/0177 :(

50/0389 was built 11 March 1968 with 4 speed gearbox and engine number LP11157LBA
