door quarter lights

PostPost by: jeff jackson » Sat Jun 14, 2014 1:05 pm

Hi All,
I know some time back one of our group had Quarterlight channels made in Stainless. I missed the boat on that, but I wondered if anyone has any for sale, or if there was interest in getting more made?
OR where can new ones be obtained from - aside from Ebay?
Mine are rotten.
Kind regards

Aside from Ebay? I'm sure I've seen re-manufactured ones on Ebay...is it Jeff_psycho?

There seems to be a good supply of them on ebay, together with the rubbers. Why would anybody else want to make such a niche product, and why would you not buy them from ebay, unless they are not fit for purpose??!!

Because someone on the forum had some made in the far east for about 40 quid a set.
As I said I missed the boat on this, there were many takers for them, and I noticed a set of SS channels went for about 70 quid about 6 months back.
Before criticising my request, you might want to check your own Quarterlight channels to see if they are rotten or not.
What I might end up doing is getting them 3D printed in plastic, then they would last forever!
Kind regards

Jeff, it was the interest in getting more made that surprised me, when clearly there is a supplier out there.

I bought a pair of the ones made by the chap in Ireland, and they were indeed good value, well made and about ?40 a pair or so. But that was quite a few years ago, and he was doing the members here a favor. The guy selling them on ebay has to make a few bob out of the process, and his price seems reasonable at about a tank of petrol for the pair!

Mark, it's interesting to note that you use "a tank of petrol" as a unit of cost. I use the same logic with my wife (and in my own head) to justify the purchase of various Elan bits. "It's the same cost as a tank of gas, dear." (Although on this side of the pond, the cost of a tank of gas won't buy you as many bits.)

Using one "tank of petrol" as a unit of currency does seem to alleviate the pain of the purchase.
