Pedal Box Spring Where to Find

PostPost by: davidwinegar » Sat Jun 07, 2014 2:00 pm

Hi Everyone,

I had my pedal box spring break and I am trying to locate a replacement. Anyone know where you can find one of these - contacted a couple of the parts specialist but they are telling me their are "obsolete". They offered to have one made, but I am fearful of what that might cost! Anyone know where I might find one?

Thanks for the help.

If you have tried the specialists it might be worth just asking one of the various ebayers who are selling random lotus elan components. If they have used bits of trim, engine components, whatever, they might have what you need!

you haven't got an originality fetish have you?  I don't know what the +2 one is like but I've just used a spring on my S4 bought from a local agricultural merchants that a. fits and b. is about the right tension (so the pedal feels about right). If you don't have anywhere like that I'd suggest a few minutes on ebay, there's literally millions of them available. .

Quite so. The spring on the +2 is very different than the elan spring. Pressing the pedal winds up a pretty strong double torsion spring. It appears to be purpose built to engage the brake and clutch pedal arms and the front face of the pedal box. I remember thinking what a PITA it would be to find a replacement when I was rebuilding my pedal box.

I bought one a few years back; think I got it from Sue Miller?

EDIT: just checked and mine came from SJSportscars

Thanks for the pointers I will try SJ and the other. I am waiting on Sue Miller and Paul Matty.

I tried a couple of ebay sellers, but no luck yet.

I was looking at a couple of double springs from an Internet search and possible exchange parts might be the Mini, Land Rover Defender, Honda CRV. But not sure - depends on the size and difficult to tell from pics alone.
