Original Paperwork 1969 +2

PostPost by: trw99 » Wed May 28, 2014 4:02 pm

Some wonderful original paperwork in the gallery section here: http://www.uksportscars.com/view/lotus-elan-2-white/

This must have been one of the last +2 Elans sold as a kit, as the first owner declares in his descriptive and interesting letter to the second owner.

I like the Lotus letter saying it's okay to use 4 star petrol. That's probably written around the time 5 star became unavailable at the pumps.
Kindest regards

The joys of Lotus plus 2 ownership have not really changed in all these years. Rusting sills and light pods, engine bay fires, donuts needing replacement and continuous hand brake adjustments, ignition and engine cam timing problems -- its all still there

But also the sublime driving experience that is not matched by anything else even today :D

cheers

Thanks for posting Tim. A great story and a fun read. A lot of classic lines...

Petrol consumption was also helped because one did seem to spend a lot of one's spare time under rather than in the car.

Fantastic!

I have VUW 405G (vs your VUW 401G) awaiting full rebuild - it was (is) also white and I guess must have been registered/delivered in a very similar location - any thoughts welcomed.

Yes a great read:

Rohan: It seems I have already experienced a good part of the list in my first six months. Looking forward to the rusting sills, headlight pods and engine fires.

All joking aside, the driving experience is sublime as you say. It never ceases to amaze me the combination of comfort, agility and handling that Lotus has. This Plus 2 has the DNA as my prior Europa and much newer Esprits.

Cheers

Yep....you guys are spot on. I sold my other hobby cars once I drove a P2 and now the focus is only P2's. Just got a white one (26 years in a barn complete with rats nests and wasp nests) with papers in the glove box from when the U.S serviceman picked it up in the U.K under the purchase program for military and then had it shipped to the States.
Luv to find old paperwork..............it's like a treasure find
