Oxford Diecast model in 1/43 scale

PostPost by: Harvey » Sun Nov 10, 2013 6:03 pm

I just learned from reading the "Model Lotus" article by Ian Townell in the July issue of UK Club Lotus News that Oxford Diecast has just released a 1/43 scale model of the +2. This is the first +2 model I am aware of since I bought one from SMTS many years ago at a price of over $100. Unfortunately, in my opinion, Oxford could not have picked a worse color combination, yellow body with silver roof. I have seen a car in these colors (the roof was in bass boat metalflake) and it did not come off as a compatible alliance.

I am emailing Oxford to ask whether they can either change the color of their offering to one of the many lovely colors offered by Lotus on the +2, even yellow. The silver roof works well on other colors but not on yellow please. I remember a posting some time ago in an attempt to determine if there was sufficient interest in a +2 model. Here's a chance to purchase what Townell calls an example of "high quality, nicely detailed and at a sensible price." (22 pounds + shipping). Perhaps if enough of us write complaining of the color choice Oxford will offer the car in other colors as well.

The silver or gold metal flake roofs were late in the life of the +2 in it's S130 guise or JPS type format, unfortunately that's what most people remember them as (most people who don't know Lotus). So that's what gets offered when somebody suddenly wakes up to the fact that the +2 is a rare car in model terms. Most model collectors are not car owners (of the originals), so that's who they pander to.

Thanks for the heads up though, as I too have only got an SMTS model, although I painted it as a clone for my road car. Franck points out that they are doing other colours so hopefully they will do Royal Blue as well? here's hoping!
Kindest regards

That's sure
My Sprite starts every time I want and she never laid me down on the road side, we went to Spridget50 in 2008 with the french club more than 1500 km without any trouble, I hope to do the same with the +2

Returning to the Oxford Diecast +2 model in 1/43 scale, I just received the Lagoon blue model I ordered for Christmas that had gotten lost in the mail. The detail is excellent with a blue metallic body and silver roof. They really captured the lines of the car nicely. The only detail missing is the articulated map light. If you are looking for a superb +2 model, look no further. The price is very reasonable. I understand they are now available in three colors, blue, red, and yellow all with the S130 silver roof.

Interesting thing about the Yellow ones not suiting a silver roof colour, my car is a 1972 S-130 in Yellow and does not have the silver roof! I have had the car for more than 30 years and as i am now restoring it now i thought about having the roof done at the same time?
Might have to rethink that now though? I do have the model in the Yellow and silver and it looked ok to me?

Julian.
