hello- I am about to buy a 71 plus 2. is the rear bumper chrome or painted? is there just a rubber gasket around rear window or is there some type of silver trim? The car I am looking at has fog lamps in front is that a option?
I really need help thank you!!

Rear bumper is chrome.

Standard rear window seals have a chrome strip that spreads the seal to hold the window in.

I'd guesd that fog lights were standard on the S spec cars.

Originally the Plus 2 was released as just that. By around 1969 a +2S model was released along side that had different trim and things like the fog lamps / driving lights. The standard plus 2 was discontinued shortly after - ( maybe when Lotus finished selling the stock they had) and by the 70's only model was Plus 2S.

At least that's how I remember it

the filler strip in the rear window rubber is really shiny plastic and usually turns brown with age.

rear bumpers are rot prone and impossible to locate, lack of one is a fault

pretty much everything after 12/69 was an 's' fog lamps nicer interior, no other real difference

i own a 1971 Plus 2S Federal bought in East Anglia by a U.S. pilot. All the above comments are correct. I recall someone offering a stainless steel replacement bumper for $800 or thereabouts. Contact me if you want.

Is it hard to remove the rear window and install correct gasket with chrome strip?

If the gasket is in acceptable condition it does not need to be removed. pry the strip out and install the new one with the little special tool

Did you buy the car?

My Plus 2 S has an outside temperature guage, in centigrade, with a thermocouple in the nose. The rear windscreen has a heating element, but it doesn't work.

Do the brake servo work? Mine was equipped with 2, but now has one, working on the front brakes.

Any pictures?

Melvin

Hi Melvin
It is dangerous to use a servo just on the front brakes as the braking front to rear will be very very unbalanced.
Either have the servo both front and rear or remove it totally.

I once helped a guy put his bent E type back on a trailer at a hill climb after he stuffed it into the Armco. He had a servo on the front and not the rear and he locked up the front and understeered into the fence. Those E type bonnets are sure expensive to fix when you bend them like that.
