Badging on a Plus 2

PostPost by: cal44 » Sun Feb 24, 2013 11:39 pm

Hey fellers,
looking for a little P2 guidance. I recently pickup up another Federal P2. Built 12/71.

Three questions:

When did the rear fold down back seat (top part) stop?
Is there supposed to be a S130 badge only on the passenger side front fender or both sides?
Which is the correct factory radio? ( Eyes on the hunt)

I detect no accidents with my magic fingers and trained eye and the car is very original sept' for the radio.

Best regards,
mike

Hi Mike,

How are you?

By no means definitive answers but....

On my '73 RHD S130 +2

The "S130" badge is/was (awaiting re-mounting after respray) on the REAR wing, passenger side.
"Elan+2" badge on the front wing, passenger side just in front of door.
"World Champ" badge on the front wing, driver's side just in front of door.

Pretty sure no S130's had fold down rear seats (but what do I know???).

Radio..... PYE??? (That's what came with mine I think....have sold it but will trawl through some photos to confirm)

Take care,
Peter

Salut Mike

My current, and I think previous S130s both had the S130 badge on both rear wings.

My very early +2S130 has rear fold down seats; but I believe that generally the +2S had fold-downs and the +2S130 not.

Don't know about US radios.

Peter, Vernon and Randy,
Thanks for tips. The car came from Missouri where is was in the same hands for eighteen years. I was concerned about rust but I wasn't going fly back just to look, so I took the chance. Lucky for me....popcorn fart dry. Original engine.

Needs some proper sorting out and the paint is D.O.A
Sadly I have run out of room......need to buy a small warehouse.

Very nice, and the paint looks good in the pix :) Did that come up on BAT?

Good thing you're collecting Lotus; you'd never get that many Boss 302s in that garage!

Left hand drive, federal +2S/130, July 72 build, champioship badge on left front and on right front is the ?lan +2 and S130 (below it). Rear flanks had nothing but the side marker lights (as well as being in front too). See middle picture pg 178 in Robinshaw and Ross. Gordon Sauer

Salut

Ah yes, with the fed repeater lights on every corner I suppose there was nowhere left for the S130 badge.

TWO Plus 2's AND a Europa TC!!

Now...that's just plain greedy :)

I see, now, the reasons for the badging differences on the Federal cars.

Lovely collection and the New +2 looks like a gem!

Mike,

Although not directly an answer to the question you asked, I have a +2S built in March of '71 and it has the fold down rear seats/luggage rack.

Thanks Lee.

I do prefer the lay/fold back since I could only fit a Chihuahua back there anyway.

As to the radio question. I had a couple of PM's stating Clarion AM/FM radios. Opinions?

As to the radio I have a Pye Clearway that was supplied years ago by sports car world where Frank was at the time, out of a salvage +2. The parts manual only shows three radios one being the pye clearway another pye and then a Ranger so I don't know about the possibility of the Clarion.Gordon Sauer
