Hi guys - I am considering a Plus 2 that is mechanically sorted but a bit tatty. Could some one take me to school on what unobtainable interior bits do I need to be looking out for? This cars gauges have been replaced with modern ones - are correct gauges available?
How about door cars and other trim?
Thanks

There were many variations of +2 trim over time, from the relatively Spartan early +2 in 1967 to the plush +2S130 of the early 70's. Most trim bits are hard to come by - in good condition! The hardest bits are the under dash trims and door cards. Gauges are pretty standard, apart from the exterior temp gauge on the later +2 (bit of a waste of time anyway). Dash switches on the later cars are very hard to source new, if not impossible. Front seat frames tend to rot and break, so alternatives may have to be fitted. The rear fibreglass side pods are available secondhand at reasonable prices, but again several types. Early, one piece, centre tunnel covers in good condition are very rare and later ones are just rare. Re-trimming a load of bits will cost 1-2kGBP, depending on type of material used. Most other bits are available but you will have to keep an eye out.
Good luck

There is a pretty good list of vintage Lotus suppliers both sides of the pond. Consider adding your location to your profile or signature line.
If you are in GB, Susan Miller (Mick Miller Lotus), Paul Matty Sportscars, Tony Thompson Racing (TTR), SJ, and Spyder Engineering come to mind. In NA we have RD Enterprises, Dave Bean Lotus, JAE, and Sports Car World in Texas. Also suppliers Down Under.
Was a recent thread regarding door cards, and the posted results of replacements looked very good.
Dash can be replaced with new. Dash crash pad difficult. Instruments OK from eBay, save clock & outside temp as mentioned. Exact tachometer & speedo may be a bit of an issue to get correct Plus 2 idiot lights included.
Mention year of the car you are looking at (or a few pics) and easy to ID here. Does dash have six minor gauges or four; this narrows it down a lot.
Check frame condition carefully.
Good luck with the search & welcome aboard! The Plus 2 is a great little vintage ride.
