Does anyone know if these is a supplier of new lense units for the Lucas square 8 light?

My lamps are okay expect one lense is cracked and both are yellow tint, which I don't like.

Cheers

Jon

When I tried to buy a set of these a few years ago the answer was that they came complete with the rear , light unit and the cover. I managed to get some on ebay as they are very very common. Prices do vary especially if the listing mentions Mustang or Rolls Royce!

Thanks Terry - I have been watching those

Do you know if the lights on the +2 were one spot and one fog as they often appear paired in this way on Ebay?

What are these lights actually for on a plus 2? I have never actually understood their practical or intended purpose (other than as a typical bit of bling by Chunky  )

The original ones on my old car were "driving lights" which were clear (a bit corroded), I fitted fog lights which were obscure type glass. I reckon the fog lights are possibly more useful.
(Although to be honest I never drove the car in the fog!)
I think you are right with the bling ......matches the silver top :D

Good Luck with the auctions

I nave competed in 12 car rallies in my +2 which is fitted with these fog/driving lights. The rally is basically a navigation rally on quite country roads held at night duiring the winter. Hence always in the dark. I connected my lightd to come one when I switched to high beam. The lights were aimed to illuminate the hedges so they were pointing slighty outward and higer than normal. I found them invaluable for driving fast down very dark lanes. I added an additionnal switch which prevented them coming on on high beam for "normal driving"

I was also able to by replacement lenses at an auto jumble.

Andy

I'm pretty sure that the lights were one spot and one fog on the +2S and then both fogs for the +2S130

Convention in the 1970's seems to be fog for the kerb side (LH) and spot on the driver's side (RH). I recall my Dad having fog lights fitted to his P6 Rover in 1971 (and again in 1974) and that was the arrangement. Having them individually switched seems to have been an Elan "unique" option.

My 1969 'S' had one fog & one spot individually switched. My 1972 'S130' also has one of each, but they are switched together, ie one switch, so maybe I should have a pair of fogs & Robbie's comment is correct ? Makes sense to me.

I'm pretty sure mine has the same combination ('73 +2 S130/5) i.e. driving and fog lights...

Surely if one is a spot & one a fog lamp, they would have to be switched separately? A spot running in fog would create a shed load of dazzle.. I suppose you could wire up the spot to full beam and the fog on dip, to operate only if the 'fog' switch is on.

Hi Everyone

My '73 S130/5 has a pair of fog lamps which are the original fitment

The original Square 8 lamps fitted to the Plus 2 had chrome plated steel bodies and while they're readily available new and secondhand they are very expensive. If however its only the glass that's required then try looking out for a pair of s/h lamps with the black plastic bodies. These are quite common and are a fraction of the cost of steel one, and of course, the glass is interchangeable.

I think there were 4 bins .....black backs , chrome backs , fog lens , spot lens and then they used the Monte Carlo method of random sampling to decide what to fit to which car

Well, I am sorted guys and thrilled to bits - my first actual bargain from Ebay after years of trying

A pair of unused correct lamps with chrome backs for, well frankly, peanuts

Thanks for all your replies
