Well i have been helping a friend to get his 1970 plus2 repaired. We have been lucky and found a very good secondhand Lotus Galvanised chassis, super.
Also we have found 3/4 of an early plus 2 body. It must be an early one because the door handles have the lock in the handles and not seperate. The boot has an external handle to open it. For me it is either a 1967 or 1968 plus 2. I am intrigued to find out more about the cars identity. It has the dyno number in the engine bay on the carb side 0578 and this checks with the number written under the headlining, also 0578 in crayon. It is a lefthand drive car. When we can manage to raise the one remaining right door window glass, i can check the date mark on the glass for the year. The usual thing, you look at the word "TOUGHENED" for the very little dot to indicate the year of manufacture. Dot next to "T"" = 1971, dot next to "O" = 1972 etc.
Well can anyone give me an idea to it's year or identity :?:

When I first started with the French register I had a few emails with Andy at Lotus Archives. If you look at the lower work sheet on our French Register 0578 was imported to France by Royal Elysees SA on 29.4.68. We beleive it to be the 5th car to be imported to France (by a dealer)
All the best
Terry

The number 0578 is probably the unit number, so 50/0578 would have been on its VIN plate. This makes it the (approx) 578th off the production line.

From the records, this left the factory on 29th April 1968, with engine number LP1252LBA. For more info, you would need to contact the Lotus archive people.

Now you have found it, what are you going to do with it?!!

Fantastic service here and it's all free from you guys, parts of the body will be used as donner. It's a bit sad to know it was one of the first plus 2 Elans lhd imported to France
