Introduction from a new member & his car

Hello all,
I?ve been following some of the threads on here for a little while now after being introduced to the forum by nebogipfel. (That?s nearly as weird to type as it is impossible to say so it?s John from now on, I?m afraid) Anyway, I thought it was time I stopped being shy & introduced myself & my car. I?m Tim, Johns +2 owning friend that you may have seen mentioned in one or two of his posts. I have a 1972 +2S 130 which I?ve owned since 1987, it was bought as an incomplete & unfinished project which consisted of a painted rolling shell/chassis & many boxes of genuine Lotus new parts but with no engine, not a big problem, as I had a Stromberg twinc left over from a conversion to a Webber unit on my previous +2S. The next 4 years were spent sourcing the missing parts (not too many, thankfully, the main thing was a Webber engine that I just couldn?t resist!) & putting it all together. We then had 10 happy years of regular use & notched up some 25,000 miles before my wife presented us with a daughter & life changed somewhat! With said new arrival, then an ever growing collection of Norton motorcycles (another diversion in my life) to eat into my time & pocket, the poor old +2 has been neglected & probably not enjoying a 10 year sabbatical. With the Elan being 50 next year, my +2 will be 40 & it will be 25 years since I bought it so it seemed a good enough excuse to put it back on the road for next summer. Not only that, but John keeps nagging me! I?ve dragged it out of it?s resting place & work is in progress, so far it doesn?t look too bad for a 10 year lay up, just the usual things you?d expect & one or two things that were starting to show their age before it was garaged, although I?m sure I?ll find more as we proceed. So far I?ve changed the rear shocks & overhauled the brakes, next is engine out to sort the water pump & fit the correct bellhousing, clutch & flywheel, I had to use the smaller Cortina parts when I built the car as I couldn?t find the correct bellhousing, something that took me years to find, although the car has always performed perfectly well with the Cortina items. No interporn back then to make parts hunting an armchair sport!! I?ll also use the opportunity to tidy the engine bay & take care of a nasty crack which has been developing it?s self around one of the headlight apertures, access to the underside will be much easier!
So, there you are, watch this space to see if I achieve my goal of summer Lotusing next year
Best regards, Tim

And Orson Welles did the famous 1938 broadcast of "The War of the Worlds" which apparently caused widespread panic in America and which was written by H G Wells who originally created the character of Nebogipfel.
Six degrees of separation? Or more likely another pointless post from a small, ugly, and hairy Morlock

Good evening gents,
Thanks for the warm welcome & I'm pleased my 'nom de plume' has met with your approval.
I think that probably has something to do with living in Norfolk, the air's so rich with that 'country aroma', we cant help absorbing some of it
Regards, Tim

Welcome Tim,
It?s nice to hear of another car being re-commissioned, I often wonder how many cars there are out there that have been mothballed by their enthusiast owners just waiting for the day when time and money can be spent again.
Well done to John for cajoling you into some action; time will pass quickly between now and next year, make sure you visit these forums regularly to keep up the enthusiasm and don?t forget to post up some pictures.
Regards

Where I've just come from at 1500ft above sea level, the air's a bit thinner & now I'm 4ft above sea level.
Could that be why my brain hurts?

No John,
It's all to do with the centrifugal force of the Earth exerting just enough upward pressure to get the optimum amount of blood and oxygen into your grey matter. This phenomenon occuurs in a narrow band beneath the North Pole roughly between Newcastle and the Isle of Wight, outside this parameter the centrifugal force of the Earths rotation either supplies too much or too little help to a humans cardio vascular system resulting in the odd behaviour so often demonstrated by foreigners It will take a while for your system to aclimatize to the optimal but in the meantime it would be a good idea to get rid of any Greek Euro's that you may have lying around

Well that pretty well explains what's been going on; the help you get on this forum has no boundaries, well almost!
Lateral ooops sorry I mean longitudinal thinking is something I prefer to leave to others, I know my limits
Still no comments from those sufferers who are over the other side of Hadrian's Wall, yet!
Yup, hardly any Euros left now, the begging letters will be going out in plenty of time for Christmas.
But hey, it's looking bloomin' scary over there & no doubt the cynics are enjoying themselves with "I told you so" stories in every Pub in the land.
Oh here's the Lotus link; considering the change in centrifugal force (varying effect of gravity) from my last location, must I re-adjust the corner weights & check the float levels on my Elan?
Cheers
John
