Hi Jason,

Carpet was supplied on the roll by my local trimmer - about ?20 per metre I think.

Well it looks like you did a great job. I wish mine looked that good.

Well done.

Hi Andy, having owned XFU I can see all the work you have done, not to mention the money spent. Are you using it yet? I think I can see the donor shell in the background, any plans there? I'm also glad to see you have it on the chrome rim steels.
Well done.
Tim

Hi Tim, Yes, car is back on the road - sailed through MoT and drives very well. Want to buy it back?

Plans are afoot to start on the pile of bits I now have (1 chassis, 2 bodyshells, 2 sets of suspension, 1 drivetrain) and assemble another car over the winter.................

Andy, wish I'd thought of lifting the body like that. Brilliant. I used hydraulic jacks and a team of freinds, but the lift would have been much more controlled. I did have a similar lift but lent it to a 'friend' who subsequently returned my trailer empty, and I've not seen it since. People can be very dissappointing sometimes.

Sean.

Glad i saw this. I'd been pondering how to lift a body, and I have an engine lift like this!

Hi I'm planning to use a similar lifting technique on my s3 coupe. Just one thing I can't figure about that front rope attached to plate in front of gear lever.......how did you get bolts into that position? The body bobbins are unthreaded.....and the chassis below is threaded. Robert

Hi Robert,

The initial lift was done just using the seat belt mounts. I only triangulated the lifting ropes when I was lowering the body back onto the chassis to keep it square - once it was sitting level I took out the front mount and finished lowering it onto the chassis with just the rear rope...............

Hope this is clear - good luck!!

Andy

Thanks andy it does clarify. A few options then, will improvise something (maybe the lattice under dash, or front seat mounting holes) and report the outcome in my resto thread
