Yes, well said.
I am building a Lotus 50R type at the moment. For sure, if I was to sell it one day, I would not let it go for ?7-10.....
By the way, prices for 26r are stupid too......

The advertised cost being nearly 5 times the advertised buy it now price of this tidy looking car http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lotus-Elan-2s-130-1971-Plus-Two-/270866454840?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item3f10e61938

It's really good to know that there are still apparent bargains for entry level into this hobby.

but there's still 3 days to go on that one so who knows what it will end up at. My guess is ?11K

Hi Boyo,
You didn't read the listing properly, there is a Buy It Now price of ?7750 ........ this won't disappear until the reserve price is met, the reserve is probably between 7 and 7.5k, so if someone is quick they can secure the car for this price.

Regards from 2 cars Thomas

Sold for ?7750. Good price, seems to have all the original bits although shame there was no pics of the interior.

Not sure what this is worth? Not listed correctly. No way a 1967 car with no external boot lock and has front fog light scoops.

Posting caught my eye as they say it is a light blue colour under the black; could it be another Wedgewood blue +2?

I would value it at this time of year at ?3,500. It looks like it needs a lot of work but is all there apart from V5. Lets see if the spring weather pushes up the value.

Hi Jason,
It's probably a Bitsa, as the interior is early +2, but as you point out externally it's a later bodyshell. The number plate would be worth around ?500 if it could be retained, but no guarantee without the V5. I was able to retain the quite uninteresting but original to my S4 YYP494H, but only because I had the V5 from 1983 and the DVLA looked it up on their old microfiche system when I applied to re-register.

My recent attempt at valuing the basket case Elan Sprint wasn't very good, but I would agree at ?3500.

Is Wedgewood Blue a shade lighter or darker than French Blue? I only ask as my +2 was originally French Blue and I saw an example re-painted French Blue recently which looked stunning.

This looks to be a better bet, seems to be a nice honest early car:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1968-LOTUS-EL ... 1c243f9f17

...no mention of chassis though :|

...I really like the early plus 2 without the somewhat porky interior of the +2S and I also like the uncluttered dash and absence of fog lights

Chassis plate is screwed
Honest?
Having said that it may be just have been removed to paint the engine bay, looks really good, I am surprised that there are no bids?

Hi

The french blue is darker. My wedgewood blue has been called 'baby blue' and 'powder puff blue' in the past. I am very manly so can carry it off.

Guess I am dumber than I look. If these Plus 2's were LHD and over here I buy every one of them at these prices.

What am I missing?

Interesting car, but it really needs closer inspection. There are two ways to play it - restore, at a financial loss, or clean up, new tyres & oil, sort out legals and run it for a few years as a 'Swampy'.

The first option will cost you (at commercial labour rates) ?20k, consisting of respray, retrim, brightwork, transmission & engine. At the end of this process you will have a great car and an empty bank account.

The second option (my preference) would be to do the minimum to get a mechanically sorted +2, probably 1969ish. Run it for a few years to get the measure of the car, then either shift it on, having had the fun bit of getting it all working again or proceed to the first option!

Unfortunately, due to lack of space I am precluded from this fascinating choice! Perhaps we should club together and buy Courbefy and set up a retirement home for Lotus owners.

I remember when I bought my +2 and ones like the black one were selling for ?2000. You would not be able to buy the engine for that now. I think we are the type of people that if we had money would have a barn full of 'projects' that would never get finished. I know my garage is full and if I had more space that would be full as well.

This looks very much like the car Chris Evans used to own (it now has a drivers side wing mirror). It will be interesting to see if it make ?30k. I do not think I have seen one go over ?10k on Ebay recently.
