Hi All,
One of those cars in Jason1's attachment was mine, the close up of the maroon car.
Like Kerryt333 I got only a derisory offer ?4K although I have had more interest from other sites I put it on..
However I am not 100% sure I want to change it, just had a itch to get a convertible (foolish I know!).
Anyhow, I think the price issue is partly that the +2 is unknown, perceived to be complex and expensive to fix (most of which is incorrect). I am always being told the Loads Of Trouble Usually Serious joke!
I had thought it was also the lack of convertibles, but the recent +2 convertibles on ebay didn't sell for massive prices.

cheers
Tim

I think perhaps the problem is that people who buy on Ebay are looking to pick up a 'bargain' and cars for sale on Ebay may be perceived as hiding something (couldn't sell elsewhere so I'll take a 'punt' on Ebay) - I know this is not necessarily the case however perception is often more powerful than reality.

Ebay is a chancers paradise - both buyers and sellers and is not really, IMHO, the place to sell a classic Lotus other than baskest cases and parts. I would venture that by offering your Lotus on Ebay you have already delvalued it. Not true in every case I will grant you but a fair rule of thumb I would say.

I have never really understood why anyone would want to sell a complete, nice, car on Ebay. I would automatically view any such car for sale on Ebay with suspicion.

I would even go further and lay some of the blame for the Plus 2 being criminally undervalued at the door of Ebay.

You're probably correct (although there are some pretty amazing cars appearing on ebay... lightweight E types for ?250K)
The good thing however is that driving the car around during the past few weeks has made me fall in love with it again!
So am now thinking of putting a period webasto sun roof so I can have both the good looks and lotus feel, with the wind in my hair!
Tim
PS before anyone gets upset with the idea of a webasto, the car already has a vinyl roof!

Some are selling and the prices are all over the place.

Interestingly Practical Classics Mag Price Guide has put their value up from June issue = ?6k to ?10k from the July issue = ?10k to ?12k. Their values are based on sales, adverts and clubs.

StuGilmour (on this forum) put a "webasto" in his '69 +2 during a total rebuild. You could ask him what he thinks of the experience.

I like the webasto as mine gets very stuffy in the summer. I have pondered over putting one in for years. If you search the forum there is a lot about how they leak which puts me off. I am still on the fence so am going to put the car back on the road and drive it for a few year before deciding.

Hi folks

I have been watching this car on Ebay for a while now. It looks really nice and says fully restored (but not when this was) but is it really worth over ?16k? I think the one Paul Matty sold Chris Evans was around that price, are we massively under pricing our cars? Practical Classics mag (PC) has the +2 valued between ?5k (Condition 2) and ?10k (Condition 1). I would say a restored car should be more than the PC valuation as they only value to Condition 1 (Not concours, but well presented and with no major faults).

I think this this is great news for all of us as more people will restore these cars and not break them for the engine and it makes the ?5k respray more likely. :D Start stock-piling +2 cars in every inch of the garage before they rocket over the ?20k mark.

Last time it went to ?16,100 I wonder how much he wants. That sounds like a reasonable amount?

he says in the eBay ad relisted due to non paying high bidder with zero feedback.

Looks like a beautiful car. I would have thought 16,000GBP was a more than fair market price, there is a similar car at UK Sportscars that they are asking 14,000GBP.

It also seems that he's been very bold and listed it with no reserve (or a very low one) and a start price of ?0.99 - you'd need a strong nerve to do that. I'm sure it'll reach a good price over the next nine days, as it's on ?6,600 as I type this, but the market for Plus 2s is a limited one. If you happen to pick a time to sell when there aren't any potential buyers actually buying you could lose out massively I'd have thought.

Good luck to him - it's a beautiful car.

I would be requiring the correct engine bay finish for that price :?

Here's another one, also a 130/5, on Car And Classic:

http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C239359

I guess you could say the engine bay looks more original (I only have enough knowledge to spot obvious things there, to be honest), but the steering wheel looks hideous to me. Easy to change though. And an asking price of a cool ?16,995...

Edit: I've just noticed that the ad lists several standard things as extras!

?20K ?? How about ?34,750 !! - see <<http://www.graemehunt.com/motorcar/109/1975-lotus-elan-2s-130-5-one-owner-only>> (Lovely looking car although way overpriced in my opinion)

The car for sale at Graeme Hunt - isn't that the car that Chris Evans bought ?

Hi Everyone

Looks very much like the same car to me. How come it's advertised as only having one previous owner :?
