A new Elan + 2

The rumour is that Chris Evans (a ginger uk media geek and serial classic Ferrari collector for all our US members ) has bought a +2 from Paul Matty which I assume to be that strongly priced red one.
He reckons it's the best car he as ever had - quite an accolade if it's true considering what he's used to piloting.
...anyone else heard the same?

Found this that he apparently posted on Tw@tter (I say apparently as I don't have an account):
"Took delivery of a Lotus Elan 2 + 2 yesterday. Already in the top 5 cars I've ever owned. One owner from new-1975. She is a red & gold babe "
So looks like it's not the Matty car - that was all red, but then there are no 1975 Plus 2's either...
Cheers
Robbie
edit: just checked the ad - PM do say it's 1975 and one owner so perhaps Mr Evans was referring to the oatmeal interior when he said gold..

Maybe it's just the start of a new fleet...."Children in Need" charity auction? 2012 Lotus run day out? Could be good.

(I heard him say he couldn't drive in the last run. Insurance only covered the auction winners! A geek, perhaps, but not precious about his cars. I guess he paid for the cover himself. Love to know what the "total sum insured" was)

Yes, it's true. Chris Evans did buy the red Plus 2 Matty has been selling for a while. It was owned by a well known collector and is in immaculate condition. Last aired in public at Lotus' 60th bash at Hethel.

I do hope the book will have a larger font size than your "Disclaimer". But I guess that would leave more room for quality pictures. A thousand words and all that...

Did you see what I wrote? That was some arse though, was it not?
We were having the galley proofs printed but it's all tuned t'shite with yet more BRM info turning up.
There will be many more photos than in the last three and nearly all the words will be mine this time, rather than the other way around. Might even use my own name, although I'll drop the hyphen.
Great thing about the digital revolution is that it's no big deal if you have to do a major revision and it is possible to print to order, rather than have thousands of yellowing copies stored, or see them in the Pound Shop.
Maybe I should invite Chris to join CLOG, after all, Warrington is now in Cheshire.
Cheers,
Pete.

Damn! Does this mean the secret's out?
Been amazed at people's inability to see that the +2 is:
a) Triple cool - sexier than any other Lotus (or classic?!)
b) Non-girly - unlike the non +2 Elans (sorry hairstylist type guys)
c) v.fast for it's age - I've destroyed many a Mk2 Jag, Spitfire, E-Type in my time - as well as a few modern cars
d) Anti-wanker - people on the whole show genuine love / respect, unlike the response of envy/hate you get with say a Ferrari or Porsche (applies to most Lotus really)
e) Formidably and inexplicably cheap
f) Maintainable on a small budget - not that much hassle to keep going / work on, and parts are on the whole cheap
You can't get a sexier, faster accelerating, better handling fighter-bomber. Let's keep it secret!

ace good post. What I don't understand is Chris' "N" plate makes it one year younger than my 1974 +2S - and I thought 1974 was the final year of production?

Presumably it was just a late registration - maybe it hung around at a dealers or was used by the factory as a demonstrator and then re-registered when it was sold..
