Nice update and info Brandon; very helpful for Randy I am sure. Pretty much the same deal for me when I was looking a few years back.

My car was white when I bought it as well. Didn't really float my boat either. Looked very similar to yours actually.

I picked mine up at Ken's when I bought it, and saw the convertible then. RHD if I recall correctly, which might be an issue for some.

Keep us up to date as you go through the car. I was planning the same as you when I got my car, but review of the frame condition led me to a frame off resto rather than a rolling resto. Getting the car mechanically & electrically sorted first is certainly ideal and more enjoyable.

I also had the body work done professionally. Removing the body worked out well because of space limitations at home. I did all the frame & running gear while the body was off-site. Amazing how much space a car takes up when it is taken apart!

Wow. Who would have thought 5 question marks would garner so much interest. I must remember to use them more often.

Sorry Ed, but I thought your question was some sort of a joke given I had already answered it...

However, I understand the Waterdown/Hamilton dialect is slightly different than the Font Hill / Niagara dialect. It is my general understanding that "restore" is the opposite of "part out" or "sell".

My restoration will be slow (perhaps glacial... note Font Hill morain reference), but it WILL occur. In the meantime I can enjoy driving the +2. Plus my S1 crash pad is in worse condition than yours anyway Ed. And the close ratio is still not for sale.

Stu,

It was quite enjoyable reading about your adventures driving your +2 from Ken's back to Calgary a few years ago. In fact it was one of the reasons I started looking for my +2. I'm certain you're right about the convertible at Ken's being RHD.

The previous owner did quite an extensive body on resoration of the +2, and the pictures of the chassis (and my inspection) show it to be in quite good order. The side sills are another matter , and I do plan on replacing them. Eventually I'll do a body off on the +2 as well, but I would like to get the S1 back on the road first. I have the same space challenges for the S1, and hope to finally get the body off at the end of this month. That will give me the space I need to work on the chassis. Although I'm fairly confident the S1 chassis is "pooched".

Well; possibly like a Newfie but with a 7 string banjo and without the three-legged sister; also we give our sheep a certain amount of respect; Google "Herdwick" and you'll see what I mean.

Hi all

Not sure how this stream got off track on the parting out issue but its a nice looking car. Great to from other Canadian plus 2 owners. I know mine is a real oddity up here in the Territories. Does anyone know of a Canadian parts supplier. I currently order out of the states and the shipping can get expensive.

Hi, Glenn. Agreed it's nice to hear from other Canadian Plus 2 owners. I have, in very short order, gone from looking to owning. Just received the title for a California Bahama Yellow February 1970 car. BUT I DON'T HAVE IT YET!!

Still waiting to square away transport to Surrey, BC.

And wouldn't that be amazing to find parts in Canada. Ha!

Now back to our OP's regular programming . . . thanks, Brandon!

Here's an example of a time when I wish Canada were the size of England and we Canadians could get together WITH our cars. We'll just have to swap more pix, I guess :)

Hi Glen.

For a Canadian parts supplier, I posted this a while back in the Vendors area. Have not had a need to order anything from Richard yet, but worth a try. I am sure Randy (Sea Ranch) will be over to check the shop out at some point when he gets his car. :) Hoping to get over to his shop when I am down to the coast in May.

If you are down thru Alberta again, feel free to get in touch.

Other tips on bringing parts in from the `States or GB. If you have the supplier write on the customs invoice on the outside of the package "Vintage Auto Parts - Over 25 years Old" the shipment will not have duty applied, only GST. if the parts are small enough, Ray at RD and Ken & Tom at Beans will ship USPS, which saves big bucks on customs brokerage. The postal brokerage fee is typically under $5, rather than over $50 with UPS. I had Tom add Purolator as my preferred courier in my Dave Bean profile rather than UPS as the brokerage fee is more reasonable. In my experience the GB suppliers (Spyder, Sue Miller), use Royal Mail for small stuff or TNT for the big stuff. My TNT driver turns out to be a real enthusiast, and willing to drop the stuff off with minimal hassle and checks out the car progress if I am around.

Darn right! Any shop that wants to support vintage Lotus shall be supported by me (and my very thin wallet)!

Thanks, Stu
