How much extra is a TwinCam worth?

Well my new Spyder Zetec engine will have a familiar number stamped on it, even though it will have a capacity change.

Not a problem, I'm reading and researching with interest. Although I'm not entirely sure what these DVLA changes are and what they would mean. Are we saying that if you drop a used engine into your Elan, the DVLA want to know where it's come from, otherwise they won't consider it a classic? And where does this leave all the Spyder Zetecs?

Ian

According to Practical Classics mag this month the DVLA will refuse to send you a new V5 unless you can prove what car the replacement engine came from and the engine capacity. It suggests you need to send a copy of the donor car V5 and/or a receipt from an engine supplier. This is not a problem if you buy the engine new but is if you have a spare engine in a shed. I believe they are trying to reduce parts theft but I think it is unlikely that a Police officer would know where and what to look for if they opened a bonnet. I think most classic owners would just file off and re-stamp the old number onto the new block.

It would not be the police that I'd be concerned with, but an insurance company is an entirely different matter.

This sounds like the best plan so far.

Cheap as chips

If a cheap'n'nasty set of indicator repeaters are worth ?3-400 I'd estimate a complete engine to be worth about ?30,000

I have a 150 BHP engine that I will sell sometime that owes me ?4300 in parts alone - and that does not include billet crank and conrods.
