I'd say there are at least 10 in Italy.
Mine is a UK import (Plus 2 RHD 1968) but I know of other Italian owners that have registered theirs from new.

On Top gear last night they referenced a website http://www.howmanyleft.co.uk which claims to use data from DVLA.

If it is to be believed then as of this year there are (model, licenced, SORN)

+2 159 60
+2S 70 42
+2S 130 107 58
+2S 130/5 40 56

Therefore there are currently 376 +2 of some type registered and on the road in the UK and a further 216 SORN

If these numbers are accurate then it makes you realise just how rare these cars are becoming. By contrast there are over 4000 e-Types registered and getting on for a further 1000 SORN

This website could provide a new place to waste simply hours looking up old cars!!

Hi,

I suppose that some of these are going to be Zetec +2 aswell so the real thing is really getting rare that accounts for the increase in value of late.

I can add one more I have one on a Green Log Book that will soon be a Zetec but +2 never the less.

My previous daily driver is even rarer!

(And no snide remarks...it was a cracker of a car :) though a 24v would have been even nicer.... )

I do wonder about the accuracy of the figures. Two of my motorcycles are not listed at all despite the fact that they're both sorned and described accurately (and I checked every variant of the name). One of the others shows 6 on the road and a further 4 on sorn despite being one of the most popular entry level classics around. Go to a mainstream classic bike show and you'll probably see more than 10 on the various stands. Only my CBX Honda, with 60 listed, seems about right. My S4 Elan, at 154, seems common as muck compared to that.

'If' as John says the figures are accurate, that's nearly 600 +2 cars known to the DVLA in the UK. There are bound to be at least 10% more on pre-SORN status, my S4 isn't known to the DVLA and I will have to get it re- registered when the rebuild is complete. Interestingly my +2S is registered simply as a Lotus Elan, so I'm obviously swelling up the Elan figures!

A couple of years ago I asked AnneMarie at Club Lotus if she could give me any figures for Elan +2 numbers that were registered by members, please see her reply below.............. You have to remember that Club Lotus is an international club and that these figures are for members worldwide and no distinction if road registered or off road. Note some very early +2 cars, probably the prototypes.
Hi Alan
Right here we go! This is the best I can do for you.

The first figure is the number of Elans we have various models the second figure is the amount of Elan +2?s included in the first figure.

1962 - 3
1964 - 18
1965 - 26 elan +2 = 1
1966 - 57 elan +2 = 1
1967 - 109 elan +2 = 26
1968 - 176 elan +2 = 86
1969 - 199 elan +2 = 89
1970 - 171 elan +2 = 53
1971 - 176 elan +2 = 49
1972 - 243 elan +2 = 97
1973 - 192 elan +2 = 148
1974 - 47 elan +2 = 44
1975 - 4 elan + 2 = 4
1976 - 2 elan +2 = 1

Kind Regards
Annemarie
