Firing order is 1,3,4,2
I'm not sure of the standard positions, obviously #1 must be opposite the rotor arm while doing the timing and the other cylinders in the sequence above 1,3,4,2.
Ah. According to the manual the SLOT in the top of the rotor shaft should be approximately facing the pivot of the contact breaker at TDC.
Now which way does the shaft rotate?

Firing order: 1, 3, 4, 2 with No. 1 cylinder nearest to the radiator.
Distributor rotates counterclockwise when viewed from the top.
My No. 1 position is about 6 o'clock with 4 at 12 o'clock. Hope this helps.

So, I'm fitting a new H and H distributor and I'm having trouble with clearance under the inlet manifold. Can I just rotate the distributor through 180...and then just plug in number 1 HT at the 6 O'clock pick up? I suppose my question is, can the cap go on anywhere in 90 degree increments, so long as the first pick up is number 1?

The distributor can be in any orientation, and the rotor arm can be anywhere at #1 TDC. But once those two things are fixed, this determines where you connect the lead for #1, and then you fit the others anticlockwise from there in the order 3, 4, 2.

FFS!
Thanks Paddy...I've just lost a Saturday trying to squeeze the cap in under the manifold!
Let's hope Sunday is a better day!
