Is this a new high for a Plus 2?

PostPost by: Jason1 » Sat Feb 13, 2010 11:06 am

Hi Alan

Yes I read the list, maybe the guy is just trying to describe the car as honestly as poss? Sometimes you can say too much and talk the car down in these ads? Still I have seen worse cars on Ebay go for more, if I was in the market for a +2 I would probably go look at this car as the guy has put a lot of detail in the ad.

Hi Jason,
Yes I would agree with that, there is a nice list of stuff with the car and the guy has gone to a lot of trouble in describing the car honestly. Do you think that Ebay has pushed prices up for project cars? I certainly think it has made second hand spares more pricey. I'm posting up a twincam distributor with lumenition system this afternoon, I expect it to go for about ?100 but it could go for a lot more, I picked it up for less than ?60 five years ago.

Regards
Kindest regards

Hi

Yes, I think Ebay has opened up the market for people to buy Classic cars; I do not know anyone who does not have an Ebay account.
Before Ebay you had to trawl the small ads for parts or cars or buy from trade.

When I was looking for my car ?1500 would buy a basket case on Ebay and ?3k - ?5k would buy a good one. Now a twincam engine in need of overhaul will make over ?1500 alone. More people seem to be breaking cars on Ebay now also, a few years ago there were the same names coming up all the time selling parts.

I really hope the price of a good +2 comes over ?10k then I could justify having my car painted professionally. :D

I think we are about ?8,000 to ?8,500 for a good one sold privately.

Rich,
You just finished it and now you want to sell!!!! I think you are trying to take advantage of market conditions or have realised it isn't as good as an original car?

Regards

In addition to the favourable market conditions, my ex-wife has just put a claim in for a lump sum. Women - can't live with 'em, can't kill 'em.

They're expensive even when they've gone.

So, cash in an envelope would be good in this instance!

I just bought the car in surrey and it is certainly not a basket case. The carbs need sorting, the fuel was old and dirty and the points needed cleaning. The engine has had a big valve head rebuild. It has a reconditioned gearbox. Perfect spyder chassis. All running gear good. Rewired with new dash. X19 headlamp lift conversion and loads more. The paintwork is not perfect but I only paid ?3000 for it. They are still out there!

Well done Chris, sounds like a bargain.

Just doing my bit to keep +2 prices down.. A highly visible breakdown in morning rush hour traffic!

The indignity of being trailered back to the workshop. The early failure of a new component in the drive train left me with no forward motion.... I stress, nothing to do with Neil's work.

I call this phase 're-commissioning'..

I picked up my plus 2 for ?2k (porbably a new low for a plus 2?!) last summer and it's deffinately no basket case, then again this is up in Aberdeen (thats scotland where we havn't discovered civilisaion yet... :P ) where the classic car commuinty is smaller, especially with lotus compared to you guys down south and the previous owner was moving to France and wanted rid of it quick and after being in the process of restoring it for 28 years! I'm in the process of restoring it now... (moving on at a faster rate I hope!) Theres some pictures on the "Jobs to do while body is off the chassis thread".

elan-plus-f13/jobs-while-body-off-the-chassis-t20024.html#p114722

At the end of the day the cars only worth what two people will bid against at auction... (if you risk putting it up for auction!)

Glad I bought mine a few years ago!

The photos are finally up....come on, +2 fanatics. Surely you are tempted to raise the price bar?
