The database says 'yes' (Zetecs excluded) - beating the previous record of ?18,995 set by those cheeky chaps at UK Sports Cars.

Actually, that description could fit mine (a few paint blisters notwithstanding) - and it's for sale for only 43% of that price - free road tax too: elan-for-sale-f2/exceedingly-yellow-1968-big-valve-head-improvements-t18833.html

At first glance, I thought the 'new high' was about the ride height not the price.

Hi everyone

Prices are a funny thing. I've always thought Plus 2 are remarkably undervalued for what it is, however as I've said before, value and price don't always mean the same thing.

I personally wouldn't pay ?23K for a Plus 2 but that's beacuse, rightly or wrongly, I believe I could get a really nice one for ?10K to ?12K. Thing is though, I have a feeling that if eveyone selling good cars were to hold out for ?20K plus, I don't think it wouldn't affect demand in the slightest, the cars would sell just as well as they do now.

One thing I have noticed recently is that prices of GTs in general seems to be rising. One of my favorite cars is the '60s Ferrari 250GTE a nice 2+2 FHC. 18 months you could pick these you for ?35K-?40K, not any more, now you need add ?100K to that price.

Could it be that all us classic car enthsiasts are getting older and now value our comfort more. I now generally prefer to drive my Plus 2 rather than my Europa the roof of which I'm sure gets an inch lower every year.

I've often though this about Elans, generally.

I mean, here we have a car that is almost invariably listed as one of the top 10 greatest driver's cars of all times, yet can be bought for the same money as a mundane family hatchback.

Ironically, if there [i]was[i] a way of quietly persuading all Elan owners to hold out for much higher values, demand would probably spiral dramatically as the speculators realised that values were climbing and rushed to get a piece of the action.

Let's be honest, that's the only reason that 246 Dinos and Aston DB4's are worth 7-figure prices.

I would think we are well positioned to 'help' keep our cars values high as possible and not let dealers make sometimes quite big money.

I just love that black and gold +2 in Mark's pics. It is a dead ringer for the one I had. Just superb..Love it..

Is the red /silver metalflake one not the one done by Option 1 recently? It too looks just wonderfull. I am begining to really fancy one.

Reading the advert at the link provided by Mr. Kempson we find it has a 2 litre BDG alloy block, to which a Twincam head is easily bolted, not a full BDG motor. I am being advised to use a BDG block for my long-stroke Twincam project. Tempting but expensive and the alloy blocks don't have provisions for oil pickup and relief valve return tubes, meaning a dry sump which is outside the range of my interests for complication.

Russ, it is just the short motor that is a BDG...the only way I know to get a 2 litre twincam! The BD engine I'm having built is a BDG short motor (taken out to 2.1 litres) with a BDA top end, but it used to have a twincam top. This used to really upset some folks, as it would out-accelerate the full race boys in their track-only 26R replicas, who were of course restricted to the iron lump. Underneath the bonnet it looked like a standard twincam, with wet sump.

Alex, I have a genuine JPS Plus 2...38k miles from new and laid up in 1985. Needs a full restoration, but it's the perfect place to start as it's never been apart...even has the original brake pipes.

Just thought I'd lay more temptation at your door!! Can you put another ramp on top of your ramp and have a triple car park??!!

bd alloy blocks certainly had oil pickup provision in the road-going rs escorts
and later oil pumps have the relief dumping oil back into the inlet,therefore not needing a tube to the sump.
can't understand the problem.....

I can always be corrected. I just have never seen an alloy belt drive block with the pickup and relief return tubes fitted. Many I have seen don't even have metal in the area where you would drill to add them yourself.
