Locking Filler Cap

PostPost by: johns » Wed Jun 17, 2009 2:58 pm

Searched various forums including this one and failed to get an answer. Does anyone know either where to get a new rubber seal for the locking fuel cap on an Elan +2S (tried Sue Miller, Christopher Neil and Paul Matty and they only have complete new caps not the seals) or alternatively where did Lotus source these from? I thought they were the same as the ones used on the GT6 but these are same style but smaller so the seal doesn't fit.

Thanks in advance for your help

Hi John

I had the same problem, I am not paying for a new cap every couple of years. :o

Finally tracked them down at SJsportscars SJ026L0007 ?1.20 + post and vat each. I bought a few; much cheaper than a new cap. :D

No problem John.

It took me months to track these down; it seems others deem these seals not worth stocking as they are low value. I like Steve and never just buy one little item.

Another hard to get small item he stocks if you need them are the heater knobs.

Jason,
This is a very useful post and thanks John for posing the question. I need a new seal for my own +2 fuel cap and thought I had no option other than a new cap 8)

That's what Paul Matty's told me! I was told by the MOT tester that this needs to seal so you could potentially have to buy a new cap every year. I asked Rimmer Bros (Triumph specialist) to match the seal but had no luck; they were very helpful though. I asked around at Stoneleigh and Donnington but no luck, by chance I was getting some other parts from SJ and asked if he stocked them and he said he had lots.

I am a big fan of SJ Sportscars as I have always found Steve helpful.

The same fuel cap was also fitted to the Scimiter GTE, just in case SJ run out of them.
