How much should I pay for a +2?

The Maxi-based five speed box did go into the Elite/Eclat range but it is different from the unit used in the Elan. The gear lever location is much further back in the Elite/Eclat version. The bell and tail shaft housings are different as are several internal pieces. I did a part number by part number comparison once and memory tells me that about two thirds of the internal parts are the same. It might be possible to resurrect a knackered five speed from an Elan with parts taken from an Elite/Eclat version. The Elite/Eclat versions are likely to be more knackered given the power and weight increases with these cars. It did not take Lotus too long to go to a Getrag box for the Elite/Eclat.
