Seven S2 rear brake piston to back plate

Apologies for being off topic, I’m rebuilding rear brakes on our s2 seven, it’s still fitted with standard 10 axle etc. I think same system is used on Europa’s.
Can anyone share tips for assembly of the cylinder to back plate, in particular the clips that secure the piston. Ive not removed the axle so working space is tight, I’m replacing all parts including clips and rubber seal. I’ve assembled all off the car and appears to fit. On the car I’m unable to get the thicker clip to slide in fully.
All tips and suggestions welcomed.
Cheers

I’ll load a picture from the manual. A picture will show no detail. V

I believe that the trick is to install the thinner 'spring' plate (7) first from the handbrake lever end, then push in the horseshoe shaped piece (6). Might you be able to use a pair of waterpump pliers to push it into place??

I might be mistaken, I thought the spring clips had "dimples" so they lock. Maybe?

Thanks, yes the spring steel retainer #5 has dimples that locate into the steel retaining clip #8. All looks simple but sliding them into the rubber seal #6 is proving difficult. I’m wondering if new brake cylinder body is oversized as old parts came apart easily. I’ve been tapping with drift to no avail. I’ll strip it and measure it up and try again with rubber grease this time.
Not helped by no room to see without removing the axle so it’s all by touch.
Cheers

vaughan,
It's been too long since to remember specifics, but I do seem to recall it being tight. I'm reasonably certain I did use some rubber grease. I'll look back at pictures and see if that jiggles any useful memories into focus.

It looks like a very similar set up to the Mk1 Escort. The clip can be slid off by using a screwdriver and the side of the cylinder for leverage. One half of the clip is sprung and the other isn’t. It’s the half that is sprung that you need to slide off first using the screwdriver. Once that is removed you can slide the other half off by hand: You need to detach the handbrake cable and remove the rubber boot covering the clip first and similarly when refitting the boot goes on last after the clip is fitted and before reconnecting the handbrake cable

"but sliding them into the rubber seal #6 is proving difficult."
As 2cams70 says, the rubber seal is just a dust cover that is pushed on once everything is assembled.

Thanks All, tge light came on, I’ve followed the image in parts manual and fitted the clips to secure the rubber seal as there’s perfectly shaped depression. With clips under this seal it should be very straight forward.
Many thanks to this great forum. Keen to get out in Sydney’s beautiful spring weather.
