Anyone going to the Club Lotus track day at Goodwood ?

I would have included the date - 27th of April - Saturday. But it was too long for the title.
I'm going just as a spectator - maybe see you there?
Cheers

Yes! After missing last year due to engine failure the week before (l  )l I’m looking forward to tomorrow.

In all the years I’ve been going it’s been fine but it’s looking like sunshine and showers tomorrow. I really don’t think I’m going to fit with the roof up and a helmet on so I’m hoping it’s more sunshine and fewer showers

Come and say hi!

I live quite close and would like to come down, but I am not a club member - are there any details anywhere of timing, cost for entry to spectate (if any) and so on?

Thanks,

Andy.

I think it is free to spectate. I snuck into the paddock early and parked my +2 in one of the bays, thinking it was public parking. Only to later find the proper parking was a bit further along - oops.. And there were a lot of Lotuses in that car park, which weren't participating in the track day. I did ask if I could go on track, but they couldn't accommodate me due to needing to know the numbers / participators beforehand for insurance purposes, or something like that.

Track day starts at 0900. Most will be there from about 0800 fiddling.
Can't recall lunch, probably 1230 -1330. Finish probably 1700, but it looks like rain later in the afternoon.
Entry free to spectate.
Drive through the main gates like you are His Grace, carry on straight ahead and go under the track through the big tunnel. At the far side bear left. Those competing will be in the middle of bay 1, just park anywhere around the outside in one of the shelters.

I showed up around 9:00, there was a good selection of very nicely presented Elans and a bunch of modern stuff. I would guess 1 Elan for every 3 modern Lotus. I had the opportunity to speak to a couple of owners, and watched the cars lapping for a few sessions. Fastest lap I saw for an Elan was 1:44 which was a GTS prepped Elan, with most in the 1:50s. What was noticeable was that the modern stuff, particularly the bigger newer Lotus barges we no faster and in many cases slower than the Elans. Well worth the 30min drive it took to get there. Thanks to the OP for mentioning the event.

Things seem to have changed from the past about 40 years ago when no racing or timing was allowed.

Thanks for posting the photos, Andy. That’s me in the white S3.

Another wonderful day on the hallowed tarmac yesterday (apart from a mercifully brief period of two wheels on the hallowed grass  ) and always great to chat to other Elan owners. Great to see three beautiful S3s this year on the track and get to know their owners.

See you next year!

Thank you Chris for organising a terrific track day at Goodwood. It was great to meet more forum members in person and to confirm that you are as friendly and fun in person as you are helpful here online.

Posting some photos. I took more and will post a link to an online album once I have a chance to go through and delete.

Alan,

The same is true now. I think it is in part an insurance / liability thing, and dictates what level of track marshals, safety services, medical support and so on are required. Non-competitive un-timed track days require far less cover, and as a result are much cheaper for a club to put on.

I was standing on the pit roof and timed the cars as they went past with my phone. A couple of the race prepped cars did appear to have lap timers in them.

Andy.
