Oil Cooler?

My 66 S3 came with an oil cooler, S/E cams, ported heads with big valves 33mm chokes. The PO used it for autocrossing some time ago. He also lived in a pretty hot area.
I am planning on no racing at all, fairly easy running and live in an area with very mild temperatures.
I am thinking that the oil cooler would likely be detrimental without thermostatic contorol (it has none) for my use.
I removed it - and cannot see a reason to keep it. (It would be easy to reinstall).
Anyone have good reasons to have one for my use? Seems just another place for potential leaks and harder to get oil up to temp for where I am.

You have come to the correct decision, you do not need one on a road Elan.
Funnily enough, my first Sprint, indeed, my first car, had an oil cooler fitted. I soon removed it.
