I was wondering about experience with well nuts? I’ve never used them but they would appear to suitable method of fixing to fiberglass in certain applications. Possibly less expensive than persuading the wife that she really needs to lay on a creeper under the car holding a bolt in place.

I use well nuts extensively for soft mounting parts. The rubber allows enough flex to minimize stress cracks caused by a rigid mount. I've had the exterior rear view mirrors on my Esprit mounted with well nuts for 25 years and no stress cracks.

My follow up question was going to be about how strong and secure they are but if they have been holding on door mirrors for that significant amount of time I think I might give them a try and see how it goes.
