Sumitomo Rubber USA, the U.S. subsidiary of the Japanese tire and rubber company, plans to spend $122 million to increase production in its Tonawanda, New York, facility from about 9,000 tires per day to 17,500 per day.
Sumitomo's New York plant, its only U.S. facility, produces passenger vehicle, motorcycle, commercial truck, and bus tires for the North American market under the Dunlop and Falken brand names. New York officials said the project would solidify the company's presence in the state as the factory marks its 100th anniversary next year.
