Routen Chaplin Insurance.
Hello all .
I'm aware that a few people on here are insured via Routen Chaplin .
I got my renewal of £463 for a multi car policy , my 08 Ford Focus and my 1998 S1 Elise .Not bad I thought only gone up £20.00
I informed RC that I'd sold my S1 Elise ( Value 15K ) and had replaced it with a 04 S2 Elise 9 ( Value 15K ) and still had my 08 Focus .
I was then informed my insurance had increased to £1,189.00 .
When I asked why I was informed that it was ' new business ' ie the S2 Elise , that RC now did not insure ' Modern Classics'
Plus that if I wished to pursue the new vastly inflated price RC no longer offered no claims bonuses on modern classics ie the S2 Elise and that the 4 years I'd obtained via RC was now null and void hence the reason for the vast increase ie I was starting a fresh as though I'd never owned a an Elise.

Please also be aware that RC had some how documented my no claims bonus as 4 years on the Focus via the new policy offer when in fact I have and RC acknowledged that they have me documented as having over 20 years NCB.
RC now charge extra for legal cover plus other add on's such as extra costs when changing car details , change of car etc when previously there was a £25 one off payment which you could pay which meant you could make as many changes of car as you wished over the term of the annual cover.

Sadly all the above and more changes seem to have come about now Kim has left RC.
I was contacted again today by a member of the RC group who asked if I wished to take out the new and increased insurance proposal.
I was not rood or disrespectful as the person who rang me was just doing her job but I did inform her that I was disgusted by RC's new approach to extort vast amounts of money from loyal customers for reduced services.

Customers of RC be aware that your insurance premiums are about to go through the roof especially if its new business .

Come back Kim and show the owners of RC how to treat their loyal customers with some respect .

Maybe we are all in for bad news.
I received a letter from RH insurance,
Quote, I am writing to let you know that from the 17th Aug, following a strategic review, the ownership of RH Specialist vehicle insurance will pass from Hiscox to A-Plan Insurance.

Anyone know where Kim has gone? He’s a member here so maybe we’ll get an update.

I insure with RH and renewed at minimal increase in June.
I too have had the change of ownership letter so I guess I'll be trawling around next year to get a decent price.
The underwriters remain the same so it's just a matter of finding a decent broker.

I know motor insurance is a bit cut throat but I'm amazed that the companies seem incapable of offering competitive year on year quotes.
Surely in the specialist market there's good business available by keeping long term customers - we treasure keep our cars for years so ought to be good risks worth hanging on to?

Not too bad I thought,

Hi Greg ,

I`m pleased to report , that I have just received my renewal from Routen Chaplin .... & my existing 5 cars (Including Daily Driver ) have only gone up by 2p ... & all seems well at RC !o!

However , I was a little concerned by your experience ... & wonder if there has been some misunderstanding somewhere ?

Steve Martin was very helpful at RC today .... & kindly updated me that all their Staff Members are now dealing with our Multi Car Policies ( where previously the awesome Kim used to be just the main man ) ... and they are still very keen to provide a service : )

However , it appears a little confusing that the Underwriters ( KGM in my case ) have slightly changed their terminology & catagories ... & "if" I understood Steve correctly , they (KGM) refer to post 2000 cars as Modern ( not Modern Classics ) , which then normally require an individual No Claims Bonus ... & consequently get called "New Business" !

"However" , depending on many factors on the individual policy , they (RC & KGM ) then try to "mirror" the NCB of our "Main Daily Driver" & still come out with a competitive premium ... which certainly happened in my case , as my existing "Other Modern" ( New Business ) is a 2002 Esprit V8 !

So , I`m not sure what`s happened with you ( & I`m glad it didn`t happen to me ) ... but maybe you should give Steve a ring ... he was a pleasure to speak to today ... just like the fantastic old Kim : )

Cheers ,

Paul .

Evening Paul and thanks for the heads up regards Routen Chaplin .
The issue I faced was that I'd changed my car on renewal ie from an S1 Elise to an S2 Elise both the same value , both K series 1800 engines but the was 4 years younger.

Can you clarify , have you renewed your annual insurance for 2020 - 2021 by re-insuring the same cars that you had documented on your policy last year or does your new policy include new or other cars that were not documented on your policy for 2019 - 2020

Thanks , Greg

Hi Greg ,

My Policy is the same as last year ... but the Esprit is still classed as "Modern" ... & I didn`t get your sort of price hike last year when I bought the Esprit either (post Kim ) ... despite it`s "substantial" cost ; ) !

I should get Steve to look in to it ....... Good Luck : )

Cheers ,

Paul .

MMMMM I had a very bad experience with RC a number of years back. Never used them since.
I have a very good multicar policy with Admiral. I did tell them I had a 1972 Lotus Elan +2 and I was dubious when they said, "that's ok we have a classic car policy"
Agreed value insurance, limited mileage 5K per year (yeah right, probably only do about 500) Windscreen cover and I might add that its not Autoglass - who would not know a Lotus elan if it ran them over. I choose who I have the glass replaced by.
I have my wifes 2002 Audi TT, My daily driver, 2004 Jag X type and my daughters 2000 Fiat Punto on the multi car.
PS I dont work for Admiral either!
Regards
Jeff
