Lotus Certificate of Provenance

It was recently brought to my attention that the price of the Lotus Certificate of Provenance would have sky rocketed to a hefty 170£ (VAT included) plus postage, while it was 44 last year iirc... If I'm not mistaken, this service was once free, I figure in fair retribution to the courage and dedication of whomever that would embark on the perilous journey of keeping a Lotus on the road.

The example is shown on a modern car, can anyone confirm if that also applies to first generation elans ?

Yes it has gone up but I believe it’s also now a collectors pack with other extras, such as cuff links, etc

Needs investigation as to whether it’s one price or various optional items.

Details are listed here - https://www.lotuscars.com/lotus-launches-new-certificate-of-provenance-programme/?fbclid=IwAR0luXHCaMfkHy0sH3zIY_R573fQMI3lPAh5IHFSoZ123M-AYIngLFVtfOI

Frankly the price is rediculous given the sparse information available on older models such as our Elans.

Wow! That is a big increase.

On the positive side, that would just about buy you a ristretto with Ferrari Classiche!

Are Lotus really that desperate for money or does the archive department now have to be self funding?

Not sure they’ll sell many.

Yep! Mine pretty much said that the car was a kit and sold. Don't know what colour, don't know what trim

the problem is that in some countries such a certificate is necessary to licence an imported car : what could have just been a ridiculous marketting attempt then becomes a despicable ploy to pump out money from the ones who contribute most to the brand, those who keep the cars on the road...

You are quite right . I live in France and without the right piece of paper you will fail to register a vehicle. I had an old but low mileage Vauxhall Astra that we were fond of and Vauxhall wanted £200.00 just for an A4 piece of paper. I sold that car. I have heard of other companies charging up to £400.00 for the same piece of paper. Trailer companies especially. This deal from Lotus is actually quite good value for money in comparison. They're all pirates in my opinion

It actually helped me get a title for my Coupe, here in the States. This is probably Lotus' attempt to
play with the big boys. What does a COA cost from Porsche, or Ferrari?

Glad I got mine while Andy was still signing them and they were a lot less expensive!

Well I’m on the other side of the fence, I already have just the three pieces of paper for my three Lotus but I’m going to go on and get the very slick packet that is now available. Gordon sour
