I've heard of angry partners cutting sleeves of suits etc, maybe this is the result of one too many restoration projects.... I know my wife shakes her head at my list!

A happy ending, you know. This is the Classic Motorsports magazine car. They documented the
restoration and actually restored, not replaced, many components.
