While it is a thing of beauty, I am not sure Colin would have approved.

5 'O' rings and lockwire would struggle to meet his value engineering principles.

Yes, I must say I'm a bit puzzled by the bottom one, resting on raw cast iron of the bossing of the fuel pump opening, which is not even flat and square to the pump flange...

lt certainly looks to be a nicely engineered product but there is a knack of fitting a new original rubber drain tube without having to remove the cylinder head . It just requires a large mug of boiling water.
New drain tubes are not very pliable but a soak in boiling water for a couple of minutes makes them very supple.
With a quick dry off before they cool down too much, some silicone sealant applied to the mating surfaces of both ends and you can then push the bottom into place first and then with some pressure using both thumbs the top will slide across the underside of the head an pop into place . Rotating the tube slightly will then spread the sealer more evenly. When cool the tube does not lose any of its original dimensions .

So what prevents oil wicking down the threads?

Maybe this will help answer.
The fixed shoulder sits on the top of opening at fuel pump
Tha adjustable sholder is not threaded. It has a interference fit with 2,recessed O rings.
It is pushed up in place with the knurled nut that has a 3rd O ring between it and the shoulder.
I fitted the safety wire to mine, however it’s not on the original.
I will ost a couple more pictures.

Fitting:, back of knurled nut, drop adjustable shoulder, place threaded end in top opening at head, slide bottom on top op pump opening, slide adjustable shoulder back up to head, then back up adjustable knurled nut to secure. Easy instal.

As far as what Colin would say.., Please ask and let me know, as he isn’t replying to my calls... ;-)

There is a cheaper option, the VW pushrod tube repair kit I used it when I put the head on without the return fitting. You have to cut it to length, but it works fine.
