Any idea why the 1974 Europa would look like this?

Seconding Tim's comment, I've considered taking the warts off my Type 54. It is also possible that the car received a nose replacement from an S1 donor -- the bodies are that similar throughout production.
There was also a change introduced in the Type 65 regarding the fender lines. Type 54 and earlier had a rounded top line in profile view, Type 65 and later had a flat line that looks a bit unnatural. This was done because of U.S. headlight height regulations, but is undesirable to most and might also be a reason for grafting an early nose, particularly if an incident required a replacement nose anyway. Nose replacements generally make the cut right about where the difference is introduced.

The noses of the S2 to the twink are very different. I knew someone that grafted a front 1/4 from an S2 nose onto a damaged twink and to same it just didnt look right was obvious. The grille opening being one, and the top of the wings being a bit flatter iirc.

You might get more input from our friends at the Europa forum: http://www.lotuseuropa.org/LotusForum/index.php
My very limited impression is that there are fairly complete non-runners out there for $7-9k.

Thank you for the introduction, I’ll go take a look and ask over there as well.
I know the value could swing massively on the condition of the engine or transmission or frame etc., just a lot of unknowns but I thought you all would have some thoughts because I’m sure there’s overlap in ownership.
