Sales advice.

PostPost by: Elan Peter » Tue Jul 16, 2019 12:47 pm

I was not sure which forum to post this so decided that general Lotus would be the best bet.
I wish to advertise my 1967 Lotus Elan s3 on the for sale Forum, however I am concerned that I may have to ay a fee ore be fined as the car is for sale through Paul Matty sports cars, any advise would be much appreciated.
Best regards, p

Peter,

First off, I am quite sure you are not going to be fined by anyone, nomatter what you do.

I take it that you want to give your car some more exposure and that is why you would like to advertise it here as well ? Paul Matty must be the most well known garage / guy to go to if you are looking to buy a Lotus, so I would say it is probably in the best place for a sale, but there is no harm in putting an ad on in the 'FOR SALE ON SOME OTHER WEBSITE' section with some pictures, unless you are going to take it back from PM to handle the sale yourself. In which case you would place your ad in the CARS FOR SALE section.

I have no idea if a fee is payable for placing an ad in that section as I have never done so, but I am sure it will tell you somewhere. I doubt it. However, if you did sell it via an ad in the CARS FOR SALE section and no fee was payable, then maybe a contribution to running the site would be appropriate.

Just my thoughts.

Is it the white car with gold bumpers Peter? Looks to be a great car for that sort of money.

Thank you for the tips and the vote of confidence. I will advertise the car and see if I get any interest.
It is very kind that you have both taken the time to appreciate my situation.

Agreed, it looks like a fine car and good value for the price being asked.

I always find it amusing on this website how EBAY is always spoken about like it's some kind of kinky sex. To me at least it's the best thing since the invention of the internet!!

Well, personally speaking, I prefer kinky sex to listing on ebay :D but agree that it is a fantastic market place. How else am I going to get rid of all the crap I sell. But you know what they say, 'One man's crap is another man's collectable'. Okay, I just made that up  However, it has so many flaws from a selling perspective, as many of you will know if you are mainly a seller, rather than a buyer. Virtually any dispute is decided in favour of the buyer, even if you can prove your case categorically. So frustrating........back to the kinky sex thing

Looks good.

Says "sold as a rolling restoration", so what does it need to be restored? It looks fine from the pictures.

JohnB, Rolling restoration refers to it's paint. It is not in the best of condition and could possibly do with a respray. (not the worst i've seen though).

Sadly the classic car market in general seems to be in a bit of a hole. I think your car represents real value for money. I hope it sells soon.

I agree with this. Downsizing has seen me sell two classics recently. Also now selling off various spares, brochures, books and manuals on EBay that were associated with them and no longer needed.
Selling the cars meant I had to offer them at a really competitive price and even then not many viewers. Also, noticed that selling bits on EBay is slower, less interest, and lower achieved prices than I have experienced in the past. Spoke to a Classic Car dealer recently and he said enquires are noticeably down since last year; he blamed Brexit!

Thank you for all of the support. I really hope it goes as we have just ordered the chassis and all the bits and need some more money to put into it. Ah, the joys of classic motoring.....
