Framing of John DeLorean

If you get the chance go and see the film "Framing John DeLorean "
Although not strictly Lotus it has some interesting insight into Colin Chapman's business dealings and involvement with John DeLorean and his cars.

I, for one, would be interested to hear reviews of this movie. DeLorean "framed"!? The judge at the court case said that if DeLorean was in his court room he would sentence DeLorean to ten years didn't he?

David, I believe the judge was referring to Chapman in the fraud court case; not John Z

My assessment of the film is that I don?t think he was framed but the police were over zealous to the point of entrapment, this is evident as he was found not guilty as the film shows but reading the history on the internet he was sentenced to 10 years but the film does not make this clear.
May be I was not paying attention and missed the relevant part but I don?t recall the film stating there was another trial.
The later part of the film deals with his financial dealings and his involvement with Lotus and the setting up of a Shell company which effectively had no assets but money was paid into it for work never done (I think it was called GPR ?) it then becomes complicated with money being moved around eventually ending up in certain peoples accounts, much of this money is never recovered.
At first I had some sympathy for DeLorean but later he appears to be a very shady character and needless to say neither DeLorean nor Chapman are portrayed well by the film.
The film is quite boring at times and it is more of a documentary then an entertaining feature movie, it also contains some strong language and not really a film for light viewing.

Richard Cox: I started to recall that even as I wrote my comment-thanks for clarifying.

26/36: I appreciate your review. I was concerned that the Wiki entry on DeLorean was a hagiography for a long time but I noticed it was brought more into line with reality lately--I am glad to hear the movie is at least critical of him.

Anyone in the UK there is a piece about Delorean on Radio 2 at the moment.
Guess it may be available later on BBC via catch up?

I caught a bit of it on my drive home today, my wife was with me and asked what it was all about and I mentioned that Lotus and Colin Chapman allegedly had some involvement in the "Delorean Scandal". She said "is that why that stupid scuffed and scratched shiny metal thing with gull wing doors turns up at Malcolm Ricketts BBQ each year?"

nuff said!
Kindest regards

Its not that Delorean was the most upright honest citizen. It was that the FBI set up a sting, a faux cocaine deal, out of thin air, enticed him into it. HE did not get off [only] because of good lawyering, he got off because you cannot to that

The rest of the business stuff, it shows how close con games and business are....
