I did the same thing back in 2006, one half inch aluminum rod, a 3/8" end mill, a 1/4" drill, my lathe, a parting tool, and some Viton O rings. Has not leaked since. If it ever does start leaking, just a new set of O rings.

Finished off last week’s job - cam timing (new cam belt, tensioner and coolant pump) not on my Elan, though - on my Caterham, before re-fitting the engine following a gearbox re-fresh.
Inlet cam spot on 0.070” lift at TDC, exhaust to do.

Have been intending this for some time, marks butterfly position half way across 1st progression hole.
Same on other carb of course gives quick easy first balance point and gives a constant reminder when you start to play.

Fixed the fan at last, using the new brush plate I got from that Landy parts seller on eBay.

New vs. old.

You can see the old brushes are really worn.

IMG_6516.jpg and
Exact fit, but brushes had to be swapped to maintain correct wiring colours

IMG_6517.jpg and
Much better!

So, all done, and I needed to take the car out to test it so I went out to do some shopping for the Mother in law..

IMG_6518.jpg and
Asda.. sheesh..

I found the handbrake still does not work, and swapping front and rear wheels seems to have cured the high speed vibration, with nothing coming through the steering wheel. Most odd. When I got back from the shopping trip, I found a number of stick on lead weights on the floor that appear to have fallen off the passenger rear wheel. Even odder!

They do that at night. Leave your bedroom window open and you can hear parts dropping onto the floor.

Sounds like my TVR 3000M that lets it's weights drop. I just put them under my Pillow for the Fairies

The thing is, they were on the floor of the garage, before I parked up, so they had fallen off before I took the car out. Probably fouling the A arm and got knocked. What's doing my head in is that there is no more vibration (after these fell off), and remember, they were on the front of the car previously.

Certainly Chunky (Chapman) would be very proud of you reducing weight (on your car of course).

When i drove out of the Garage i found Balance weights on the floor too. Big ones.
The trouble is the Wheels had just been re conditioned with nice shinny paint on the inside. So shinny the Weights don't stick and i couldn't see any marks to stick back on in the same place.
But like Jon i took the Car for a drive and no vibration :? weird

I had the bright idea today that if I got everything ready for new drive shafts, psychologically they would arrive soon! In reality though, putting off finishing removal of the wirper boxes and heater :x And I doubt any drive shafts for many months. We have't had a postal delivery for two weeks now.. :(

Good part though - got rid of those lower suspension plates!

IMG_0407.jpg and

If Chapman was weight obsessed, he certainly had an off-day when he put these on! And what is this obsession Lotus had with fitting bolts so the threads are exposed to the road? Every single bolt I have removed is thus! And to make it worse, the armoured plates are held on with 2BA nuts and bolts  Thank heavens someone invented the angle grinder

Don't dump them!
The protection plates are probably worth a few bob if you put them on ebay for those of us who like originality. I am not discarding mine!

When i bought my last +2 the owner said i think i have the Dust Shields in a cupboard, would you like them and i said yes please. After getting the +2 back on the road i was pleased to fit them
