Anyone available in Cape Cod on 5/23?

Hi,

I'm picking up an S3 project car in Cape Cod Mass on 5/23. I'm going to stuff it in a moving POD. I could use some assistance. Someone with maybe a hydraulic jack and an air compressor. The car has been sitting in a driveway uncovered for many years. I'm guessing it has at least 4 flat tires and perhaps locked up brakes.

The POD is being delivered on 5/22. We are flying into Boston on 5/23 and expect to arrive about 5pm to pick up the car.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Bob Herzog

Wish I were closer to help, Bob! Question about using the POD-is it cheaper than hiring a transporter to haul the new project? I never thought about using a POD as an option. I can see the advantages-most haulers will not load up a car that does not roll or is all apart-or has loose parts. Good luck and share some photos please!
Looks like there is a pretty active British car club there-maybe someone can help you out?

A POD is not cheap but it is a lot less hassle than trying to find someone who will deal with a non running car.

You cannot ship a running complete car. But if you tell the POD people that it is just a bunch of parts.......

I arrange to have the POD delivered the day before I arrive. Fly out with my wife and rent a car. Go to the site and load up. Call POD for a pick up. Then spend a couple days with the wife traveling the area. Last year we did this with a project car in Seattle Washington and had a great time. This trip to Cape Cod should be fun too!

Sorry, 23 May is not going to be a good day to be away from work.

It was one of those spectacular Cape Cod days. Beautiful spring weather, no crowds....

Gary Anderson arrived early, with the right equipment (dollies and block & tackle), and did all the hard work. I merely helped with the last few pushes to get it into the POD box. Bob's flight was delayed and so he got there to see the final result!

An S3-S4 transitional Elan mix, I think. 45/7265 body 6842. S3 rear lights, S4 dash rocker switches (and Type 45 plate).

Last state inspection in 1990, driven lightly around the town unregistered for a few years then under a tarp (partially, by the looks of it) for the past many years. A fine covering of lichen on the nose speaks to the clean air on the Cape. :-)

Bob,

My Elan is 45/7279, just a few numbers later. It is also as you say a "transitional" S3/S4, S3 body, S3 rear lights, S4 dash rocker switches, Type 45 plate. The interior door latch handles hang down from the pivot and are somewhat unique. I thought mine was the earliest "Semi-Super Safety" but you have an earlier one.

Elan45 also has one with numbers very close to yours. I'm very interested in what you find with yours. It was probably sold through Duchess Auto in PA.

Many thanks to Nick and Gary. I guess especially Gary because when I arrived the car was already in the POD and Nick said he did not do much as Gary had it covered.

The car is in really bad shape. A real junk yard dog. It was full of water and leaking all over the POD when I arrived.

Oh, well. The price was right. The gentleman who owned the car was starting to suffer from Parkinsons. He was very happy to see the car get out of the driveway and go to someone who will do something with it. He said he had his best afternoon in a year watching Gary and Nick pack up the car and then going out for Fish & Chips at the Lobster Pot with us later.

I'm not sure when I'm going to get to this as I have my own Elan apart and two more S2 Elans ahead of it.

Again, thanks to Gary & Nick. Great to have this forum where all you have to do is ask and Elan people jump in to help!

Glad it went well and good to hear that Gary is alive and well. I haven?t seen him post for quite a while.

Well, the Cape Cod Pod has arrived. And this picture tells what condition of the car is in. This is what remains of a can of starting fluid that was on the FRONT SEAT!
