U.K. Insurance who offers the best deal

Hi all , as my insurance is up for renewal I wonder if members would like to share there experience for current offers from insurers

I currently use Lancaster and my S4 is costing ?124 with a limited mileage of 1000 miles

I expect to do more this time around on the newly recond engine , so will ask for 2000 miles

Also I have an agreed valuation of 27,000 which might be a bit low

So is it possible to get a better deal , maybe by joining club lotus ?

And is it clear yet if insurers insist on an mot as it becomes optional at the end of the month ?

Regards Steve

Steve.

I went thru Dan at Flux. Ok for a plus 2 so maybe theres a difference in value.
?98 all in, and all mods disclosed.
PS were you at Romsey this year,?

Hi Steve,
For many years I've insured both my classics with Carole Nash. I like them because agreed value is straightforward, no club report required. They also include full breakdown cover as standard. From memory I think I pay about ?120 per annum for 3000 miles. In addition I found that an extensive list of mods to my Elan wasn't a problem.

Obviously your insurance quote depends on more than just the car, but for the record:

  • I'm with Adrian Flux
  • Have clean license and > 50 years old
  • Premium was ?116 and this includes breakdown cover with RAC
  • Fully Comp, European motoring and salvage retention included
  • I was required to join Club Lotus (another ?30)

There's no agreed valuation, the purchase price is shown. I could've saved ?35 by skipping some of the options (especially the breakdown cover).

Kim Eaton http://www.routenchaplin.co.uk/speciali ... tus-scheme

I haven't had to make a claim but i'd recommend Kim Eaton to anyone looking for Insurance (competitive prices too).

From my experience dealing with insurance company's from the bodyshop side, i'd be careful going for the cheapest because you do tend to get what you pay for....... also make sure you have options like salvage retention and go in a little heavy on the agreed value etc.

Interested if anyone has an option to include track days/hill climbs or similar on their policies.

Thanks

David

Jon, I strongly advise that you have agreed value insurance in the future, otherwise the insurers generally try and pay out the minimum they can get away with. Regards, William.

Yes, you're right William. Mine is beginning to look on the lean side what with all the money I am putting into it. She might not have perfect paintwork (it's good enough mind!) but she will be "sorted" in all other respects. I think it is already worth 4k over the valuation on the policy..

Both my Sprint & S2 are insured with Heritage (on a multi-car policy) .......cost was ?185 for the two last year and it includes Track Day cover as standard.
Noted in second paragraph of this ad.

Kim at RoutenChaplin for me as well at the moment. I don't think I've ever had to make a claim on the Elan since I've had it (35+ yrs). The nearest I've ever been is when it was stolen back in the mid 80's but the police managed to find it, undamaged, inside of 12hrs :D, so how professionally a claim would be processed is anyone's guess. Other than other people's reports of how their claims went it's hard to distinguish between the usual suspects so who I go with usually ends up as a amalgam of price, customer service, add ons, recommendations on here etc. For me the big must have is Euro breakdown so if they don't do that it's a non starter.

Started with Kim at RoutenChaplin, then moved to Lancasters. Will be going back to Kim this year.

mmmmm interesting.
I found that you only really know how "good" your insurance is when you have to make a claim.
I have had my elan for 25 years. I was with the same insurer for 18 of those up until I had to make a claim. Not my fauly either, clumsy oaf at work reversed his eurobarge into the front of the parked plus2.
Insurance company were useless.
Soon swapped as soon as it was sorted out. (took months too).

So you pays yer money and you takes yer choice.
Sorry not much help on who to insure with!

mmmmmm not very interesting. If you do not tell the board who to avoid, then others will insure with the same useless insurance company.

Very pleased with Routen Chaplin.

Plus 2 (agreed value) and an Alfa Spider on the same policy, 3k miles pa and breakdown cover all for around ?175.

Bargain as far as I'm concerned :D
