An Elan heads West

Hi guys - the grand Route 66 story starts now! Tuesday I liberated the Elan from a warehouse in Newark then took the Interstates to Lake Erie. Wednesday the highways to Valparaiso - having been to the Chilean version I had to come here as well. Tomorrow to Chicago and Friday to Springfield IL. I have booked the car to be on display at the Show but have no real idea what that entails!
And Sunday off we go again. The car is doing well after 4 weeks in a container and then two days driving at ......speed limits (!) and the heat of Indiana - if I was a car would I prefer a container?

Anyway may see some of you on the way. I will be doing notes on my website at www.rallyelan.com - but I haven't started yet!

And if you can make it to central Ohio, you are welcome here. I've done some longer trips in my Elans but nothing as long as you've done and are doing. I used to do stage rallies in a Datsun, so I can appreciate some of your earlier adventures. My son and I just returned from towing our Lotus Formula Jr. out to Monterey and back, much of the trip on Rt 66 or the Interstate right beside Rt 66.

Hi all, Thank for all your comments - I'll do a page about why we started rallying an Elan - but it might take while!
The show in Springfield IL was organised by Family Events and called itself the 16th Annual International Route 66 Mother Road Festival. Some people we spoke to had come for the first time, others came in large groups with all sorts of whacky cars - custom built, classics and modern Some drove there but a lot came in trailers

I look forward to seeing some of you shortly and apologise that I could not see those of you back east
