How much would I need to pay for a twincam engine?

Silly 'how long is piece of string ' question, I suppose, but interested to get an idea of price for a good-condition tc engine, please?

Depends what you mean by good condition. Given that rebuild costs are in the region of 3-5k from a reputable source I reckon you're looking at 6k + for a rebuilt twincam.

If your taking about a Weber head TC engine $6K would be cheap here in the US.

There's one on eBay now for 8K.
I saw a John Smirthwaite rebuild a few months ago for 12K.

That is all very well Mark, but how much did it actually sell for? Did it sell at all, what spec was it? There are many variables which have to be taken into account when you see an engine for sale.

I SOLD a late Big Valve motor last year, that was in pieces, for ?4250. Make what you will of that!

Everyone knows the answer to that.
It's twice as long as the distance from the middle to one end......

Sorry, couldn't resist :)

switzerland is'nt cheap, as we know. here you bring HIM the main parts in VG condition (or 10000$ downpayment if you start from zero) and then you add another 20000$ for labor etc... whereafter you'll have leakproof engine with 12months guarantee. that's around 25grand in POUND STERLING!! sandy PS also missing sponsoring OR deep pockets!

Yes no simple answer as the cost can range from around 4000 ( US$,Pounds Euro) for a complete engine of unknown condition but needing a full rebuild (and maybe having a block or head that is not usable in a rebuild) to over 20000 ( US$,Pounds, Euro) for a completely new engine by a known builder using all new components

I need to go and build engines in Switzerland

so-called veteran cars can have more than 100db BUT they can (if you're too crazy for em!) pull you over in the city where you get an invitation to show your car: this can lead to expensive "improvements" --- so in the city i have to keep as quiet as possible: as you may not know: the law abiding swiss call the police here for loads of reasons; also loud cars and harleys!! sandy

In my part of the World such "law abiding" people are normally told by real people to "go forth and multiply", ( you may need to Google that Sandy).

Open season on Harley riders ?
I'd buy a license...... :)
