Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone has heard how the reprint of BB's book was coming along.
I know that Brian was needing to amend or update some parts before the reprint could take place but that was a little while back so thought I might prod the forum to see if there was any news on the matter.

this book is becoming the holy grail for elan restorers - no question: brians book is superb, but having knowledge or education in physics and mechanical engineering PLUS the composites side (not surf boards and gfrp panels or bodywork like an elan) , as some of us do, it's good to have your own interpretations and wisdom. so don't start driving the prices, because the newbies who want to have this bible aren't necessarily those who have the unnecessary funds!! sandy, just a viewpoint

I did talk to Brian awhile back and it was he that that informed me of the current position at the time but I didnt want to keep annoying him about it. Just thought there may be news that I wasn't up to speed with.
Thanks for the tip though Europatc.

I did a chassis change before Brian's book came out. The factory workshop manual is pretty good as well although when they say thinks like 'knock out the old bearings' they mean ' put them in a 5Ton press ....'! I discover this trying to change a rear wheel bearing on the car....

I was able to get a copy of the book recently and I learned something on the first page I opened it to. Excellent book!

....some of you know what i mean: if you have to follow brians' book as if it were a recipe book for an important dish (e.f. filet wellington!!) i'd say you are really stretching your office knowledge of automotive engineering! and waste all that time on your wife! sandy -------------- as bugs says: aint i stinker!!

I'd like to meet Brian but Castle Combe is a ittle far from Australia for a weekend.
Maybe Elon Musk might come up with something in the near future to enable weekend visits.

At $1495.00 on Ebay, I think I'll pass.

I'm rebuilding an S1, but I have the old early Elan manual, illustrated parts list, and factory notes. I hope that will cover anything I need to do. Also I think the series of articles in the latest Classic Motorsports, and the old Practical Classics articles will cover any odd or unusual process.

I bought the book (not the new) recently from a place in MA I think it was, Tottingham? I could look it up but I found it on a web search. I don't know why anyone would pay more on EBay. Less maybe, I haven't found it that useful really.

I hope it comes out soon; I'd like to see a copy.
i don't really know anything about the book, and why people think it is so valuable.
I have an S1, with the original manual, and with the kit car assembly instructions, as well as the illustrated parts list, and factory notes. With a knowledge of cars and a history of working on them, I'm not sure what sets this book apart from available information, or other experts. I completely restored a '66 Elan coupe, using the newer manual, I didn't have any real difficulty in assembling it. The Elan is a pretty easy car to work on. A number of people have restored Elans, and there is information about improvements to bits that were marginal on the web.
I play guitar as a hobbyist, and within that field there is a tube amplifier that is "out of print", and valued at $100,000. Its not worth the money, but a mystique has been built up about it. I think it is the same about the book. Is the reprint going to cost 1000 Pounds?

Having looked at the the book, I bought it at the going rate. I'm of the same opinion. Workshop manual, parts list and this forum have been the way forward. I can't remember the last time I looked at it.
