with all due respect, there is a difference in essence between original and reproduction - and this stuff is emotional rather than rational in my understanding...
I completely understand the use of original parts (even if they are tired, scuffed or chipped etc)
Ultimately it's the owner's choice if he or she wishes to keep the car as original as possible.
The challenge facing anyone who has carried out a total restoration project must be the decision whether to replace parts which, although they may be serviceable, are tired and faded - or go for fresh new parts if the originals let the finished car down.
However if you don't have the originals and direct replacements are no longer available then I can't see any alternative to using either a similar part or a reproduction.
