Find my 1968 Lotus

PostPost by: quatermaine » Fri Jul 08, 2016 2:00 pm

Hi All

Just came across this site and thought I'd see if my lovely 1968 Elan is still in the UK.

The Registration was TMD 50F ...I bought it in 1972 ..Red & White......it had a half race Cosworth engine...huge flared wheel arches and went like a supasonic rocket.

Would love to hear from anybody who may have owned it or bought it in the 1970's and still cherises it.

Thanks chaps....Terry.... email.... [email protected]

First registered 1 April 1968. Not currently taxed so perhaps long gone, sent abroad or in a barn.

Thank you Tim for replying. Hate to think The Grim Reaper of Cars has taken away such an excellent marque.
Last I heard of it was in 1976...so devastated that I sold it for ?400 that I bought a 1970 Series 2 EType Jag in 1977 for ?,1500....Sold that in 1982 for ?3,200 as needed money for a house move....well at least the house is more valuable than the current price of that car...but only just !!!

This is such a similar story to many of us, sorry to hear that it may well have gone to the grave yard in the sky :-(
Hope that it is somewhere being sheltered from the elements and will resurface in the midst of time

I beleive my Sprint ended up in Japan. It's not taxed here so maybe it's still there. I also hope it hasn't gone to a Japanese grave.
I did think of contacting the Elan owners Club of Japan, but their site is a bit difficult to understand
Some nice looking cars though, and I know they love their Elans.

My Red / White 68 Elan came to Australia in the early 70's but it has never had flared guards or a warm engine (until I got to the engine for racing) so its not the missing one. But maybe someone in the UK is wondering where their Elan got to and would be happy to know its have a great career of constant use over the last 40 years.

cheers

The owner hasn't contacted Lotus archives in the last few years about this car, so sorry I can't help either.
