My first Elan was a very early Series 3 Fixed Head in red registered FPM1C in 1965 .I owned it in the mid 1970's and often wonder what became of it. The number doesn't come up on a DVLA search. I know this is a long shot but wondered if anyone knows of its whereabouts or fate.

You could ring the DVLA to ask whether there is a dormant record for the car. This should mean that the car was transferred onto the new computerised database in around 1982. If there are no transactions such as taxing, change of address or keeper for a period (I'm not sure how long this is, perhaps you could ask whilst you are speaking to them) how long it takes for the record becomes dormant. Please let us know.

If however there is no record of the car at all this would suggest that the car has either been laid up somewhere for a very long time, has been destroyed/scrapped or exported. At least 32 years but maybe 40 years+. Doesn't sound too hopeful to be honest.
