Here's a link to a topic I found on the VX220 Forum's site.

I found it very informative, debunking many myths and mysteries along the way.

Not much myth debunking just a simple set a factual statements

What is does not explicitly say is that basically you get what you pay for and what you pay for is a combination of base oil and additive package

Buy a Redline group 5 polyol ester oil at twice the price of a group 4 Mobil One polyalpha olefin or 3 times a Valvoline group three "synthetic" . The additive package is one thing but the base oil is another and you cant make a good oil with just an additive package you also need a good base oil.

How much you need to spend depends on the engine you have and how you use it.

The minimum I would use is a group 3 like Valvoline "synthetic" for a moderately loaded road car engine like my Landcruiser. For a full race engine being used at 8000 rpm plus in my elan I would use a group 5 Redline.
