Hi all.

Lotus Ltd and the Mercedes-Benz Club of America are hosting a High Performance Advanced Driving Day at Watkins Glen on July 1. Below is what I posted on most of the lists. If you are interested in joining us, send me an email or just register at www.clubregistration.net.

Regards Tony

Your Lotus was designed for high performance driving. Wouldn't you like to learn to develop the driving skills to match it? That is the intent of Lotus, Ltd./Mercedes-Benz Club of America's Driver Education program, to teach you the skills to handle your car better. Our date is only 2 months away and we will be one of the last groups to use the whole course before it is shut down for repaving. The techniques you'll learn will make you a safer, more aware driver on the street as well! Afraid to take your car on the race track because it might get damaged? That's understandable, it can happen. However, it can also happen on the street. The race track is a controlled environment in which you have far more freedom to make a "mistake" than on the street. If you are a novice driver, during our High Performance Advanced Driver Education Day, you will have a seasoned instructor with you at all times to guide and teach you at a pace with which you are comfortable. There is no pressure or trophies at a Driver Education day. It's all about safety, fun, and car control! Yes, in that order.

As one of North America's oldest road courses, Watkins Glen Race Circuit at the southern tip of Lake Seneca in New York was home to the U.S. Grand Prix for many years. Lotus won several times with Innes Ireland, Jimmy Clark, Graham Hill, Mario Andretti, and others standing on the top step of the podium.

This year, Lotus Ltd and the Mercedes-Benz Club of America Finger Lakes Section will be hosting an High Performance Advanced Driver Education Day at Watkins Glen on July 1, 2015. The cost is a very reasonable $285(US), which includes a reception at the Corning Radisson, complements of the Corning Radisson. Garage space will be available for an additional $25 on a first come first served basis. Lunch will be offered at the Glen Club, within the track infield, also for an additional $25. While both can be ordered at the time of initial registration, you have until 2 weeks before the event to add them to your registration.

Novices and intermediate drives requiring instructors will be approved as we get an instructor for you. So register early to increase your chances of getting an instructor. All fees will be refunded if we do not have an instructor for you.

It should be noted that the Glen is being resurfaced this year and the "long course" will be closing late July and the whole track will be closing in early August for the rest of the year. We will be one of the last groups to use the "long course" this season.

We have two new items this year to inform you about. This year registration will be handled by ClubRegistration.net. If you don't already have a clubregistration.net account, it's a simple, free signup on their website. If for some reason you cannot do that please let us know and we will make alternate arrangements but we prefer all to register on-line at ClubRegistration.net . Just search on Watkins Glen after you register on their site to find our event on the ClubRegistration.net website.

Second item is that we have arranged for our participants to work with http://www.ontrackinsurance.com to provide on track insurance for your car should you desire to have track insurance. I found their rates really reasonable (for example less than $200 for 30K coverage) with a reasonable 10% deductible. Please understand that neither club has any connection with them other than to let participants know that their coverage is available to those that wish to purchase it separately from the registration fees.

Our High Performance Advanced Driver Education Day is just under two months away and if you are an instructor and wish to participate and instruct two students, then the registration fee is waived. Advanced drivers and Instructors will enjoy lots of track time. Contact Dave Nagler at Lotushack*at*lotusowners*dot*com if you wish to be considered as an instructor.

W are very happy to have The Mercedes Benz Club of America, Finger Lakes Section join us for the second year in sponsoring this day at the Glen. We look forward to our continuing relationship with the Finger Lakes Section in future years so that we may bring events like this on a continuing basis.

You do not need a Lotus to attend the event, any make is allowed and you only need a street registered car if you are attending the Laps and Lunch. Race cars are permitted for the whole day track portion of the event.

We arranged for Tuesday night trailer and car drop off at the track. The track will be open for drop off between 6pm and 9pm. Even if you're not dropping a car off, we encourage you to come to the track between 6:00pm and 8:30pm for registration and tech to ease the rush in the morning.

Spectators are welcome for the event and there is no cost. However, Watkins Glen requires you to be preregistered in order to get into the track. If you would like to come, watch, and hang out with your fellow Lotus buddies, you must contact us so we can get you credentials and entrance into the event. Please email Tony at tvacc*at*lotusowners*dot*com if interested.

Laps and Lunch at Watkins Glen
As we are renting the track for the entire day of July 1, 2015, we might as well make the most of it so we are having a Laps and Lunch for those that want a little bit of time on the track! The Laps and Lunch starts about 11:30 am and consists of 3 laps of the track behind a pace car, with a stop at the start finish line for pictures at the end of lap 2. Then it's off to the Glen Club for a sandwich lunch. Cost is $45 for the lunch menu and the 3 Laps. If you have a passenger then add $25 for lunch per passenger. If anyone is interested in doing this, please let us know. We will be able to get more exact pricing once we know the total interest. We need at least 35 participants to meet the Glen minimums. Your car must be street registered. No helmets or roll bars are required for the Laps and Lunch portion of the event. You do not need a Lotus for this. Any street registered vehicle is welcome!
Please email Tony at tvacc*at*lotusowners*dot*com if interested in the Laps and Lunch.

Please join us for a fun and Sports Car filled day at Watkins Glen. It will be fun!

Great. It will be a great time.

I would love to get a bunch of Lotus Owners there that cannot make it out to LOG this year.
