Painting, Drawing or Sketch From a Photo.

Can anyone recommend an artist (in the UK) who can take your favourite Elan photo and convert the photo into a half decent painting?

I can't and it probably not what you want but have you considered just having the photo printed on to a canvas.

Had one done for the now wife of a scenic view with good results (and very happy wife).

We have a member in the Caledonian Centre of the MGCC who has done this in the past. I will email him and see if he is still able to do this and what he charges.

Here we go. Chris Hastie (MGB and MGRV8 owner) lives in Stirling and is an artist by profession. He is very capable of painting your car in watercolours. He has a web site here: http://www.hohadesign.co.uk/ Give him a call and hopefully he willbe able to produce what you want.

How I wish I could draw and paint !!!

A good few hours must go into each piece of work - so a starting price of ?450 is probably reasonable - but I wonder what you get for that.

I don't know if I'll get in touch - but it has opened my eyes.

More like a few weeks. A lot of people are surprised how long it takes, especially the realistic style stuff. All my work is within the industry and I charge 25 quid an hour or thereabouts so you can imagine how that would mount up over 2-3 weeks work. There are folk who do purely commissioned works to the public and charge a lot less (I'm thinking those ads you see in magazines offering to paint your dog or whatever) and to be quite honest I don't see how they make a living...

I was talking about actual time not elapsed time - so using ?25 per hour for the lowest price drawing he would take about 17 hours to produce the drawing - presumably spread over several days.

I like the style - can you give any indication of the cost?

One way of doing it economically with surprisingly good results is to use photoshop: apply artistic filters: save file and send to a specialist poster printer to have printed the size you want to frame

After:

after.jpg and
