The Sprint in the picture is indeed Kenny Mance's. Kenny related a story about the car that he was told by Frank (can't remember his last name - from Sports Car World) that the car was specially ordered by a cigarette company and specified with the gold wheels and a red color that is different than the standard Lotus Carnival Red. He also indicated that is had some higher specification parts like a better voltage regulator. So while Sprint wheels should be black, this car was originally supplied with Gold wheels.

In regards to original vs modified, I have tried to get cars that are original rather than modified. Only one car, the Europa S1B will be presented with non original wheels. The rest of the cars are original at least as far as external appearances go.

Cars were chosen to represent the entirety of Lotus history with emphasis on older cars since it is an antique automobile museum and I have tried to source as many cars as possibly from people I know who are involved in either LotusPALS or Lotus Ltd as I think club involvement is important to survival of the Marque, whether it be survival of the present company or survival of old cars.

To an extent promoting the Exhibit is like preaching to the choir. There probably isn't much there that an avid and long time Lotus enthusiast hasn't seen. None the less I am actively promoting it in the Lotus community to engender enthusiasm for the Marque and raise awareness of the museum.

I hope some of the members of this forum will attend at some time during the exhibit and I also hope that somewhere in the expanse of it that there will be something that you hadn't seen and something that you hadn't known about Lotus to make your efforts worthwhile.

I'll see if I can come to the reception on the 23rd... will be bringing the Evora rather than the Sprint though...

Thanks for your tremendous effort on this.

If I could manufacture an Elan Wheel that looked original, wouldn't bend, was as true as a Panasport, and weighed the same as the original crooked, bent, oblong, untrue, cracked wheels, ........do you think I could sell a few?

On the original note, Kyle, You are doing a great job!!! Thank you.

I really wish I could see this show.

An observance of the Elan 1600 in what looks to me to be Black. Since I found out my car was ordered in black I've been looking for any other Type 26 cars in Black. That one plus one I saw in person approx. 1 month ago are the only 2 Black type 26's I've seen. The one I saw in person was not originally Black but repainted later. I wonder if this car is (was) originally Black? Sorry for the obsession with this, but I (no one else) find this kind of stuff very interesting.

The other Elan is an S1 and is dark green. It is the one that Peter Egan restored.

Okay, I see now. The car is shown twice and I thought they were different cars. It looks so dark next to the lighter green cars I thought it might be black.

I have been given word that with 10 days to go there have been more tickets for the opening reception sold than any other special exhibit to date!

Kyle,
Thanks for posting. I am thinking of heading down for the opening, good excuse for a winter excursion. Any suggestions on local hotel(s) or where other Lotus folks may be staying, I am unfamiliar with the area, any info. or links would be appreciated.
Is the opening a "Green or Yellow Tie" event :D ?
Cheers,
Jack

I'm coming in my best Lotus long sleeve t-shirt, just to stay in the spirit of adding lightness. A suit weighs too much

There are a couple of hotels immediately next to the museum. Use Google Maps and search for AACA Museum Hotel and it will show you where they are. When I did it it even showed rates!

300 of the 400 tix available sold as of today.

WHen people ask what the dress is I tell them I don't know, but you can't go wrong with business casual...or a kilt.

We are setting records!

Last week with something like 140 tickets sold the museum told me that Lotus: The Art of Lightness had outsold all prior opening receptions for special exhibits. This is especially significant because Winter exhibits tend to attract less people.

As of yesterday morning ticket sales had reached 320!

Thanks to all of the Lotus enthusiasts who are surely bolstering the ticket sales. I am hoping we go over the 400 mark.

An additional bit of breaking news: We have secured a Lotus Type 79 World Championship winning Formula 1 car for the exhibit.
