For those of you in the US looking to purchase NOS keys for your existing locks, The Roadster Factory has a large cache of original Wilmot Breeden FS keys on hand for reasonable prices. Here is a link to the keys they offer on their site: http://trf.zeni.net/webcatalog/featurek ... nu=&page=2 These keys are already factory cut to the number you will find on your lock assemblies so once you have that number, simply order the correct key from them. I ordered a set of these NOS OEM keys from them for my S2 using the numbers found on my lock assemblies and they work perfectly.

You may have to "pick" the lock...not as hard as you first think..it's simply a matter of pushing something thin down the side of the barrel (from the rear) to align the fingers...hard to explain but relatively easy to do...you can see the two channels where the fingers are in your photo.

I seem to have hijacked this thread, apologies for that, but this might be useful for others at some time. I managed to get the barrel out of the boot lock by fiddling about with a thin file in the keyhole. The number was just discernible and does match the number I found on the back of the glove box latch. Also the number for the door locks, which is different, can be found on the body of the lock in which the button slides. So, happy for the moment, just have to find a supplier in the UK (there seems to be a few advertising on the net) so we'll see whether things work out or not. I found that you can get either new key blanks cut to pattern or, if you want, an original set although they can be a lot more expensive.

I must say that this is one of the best car forums on the web, very knowledgeable people and a joy to chat with.

Long ago I obtained some new barrels for my door locks. I got them from RS I think the barrels were for secure filing cabinets, the keys have notches on both edges.


It was funny when I overstayed at a parking space in London one day and when I got back I found a whole lot of Policemen with a huge bunch of keys trying to get into my Elan, without success.

I just got a telling off for parking too long; UK policemen used to really like Elan drivers back in those days, not like now.

Late to the party as usual; I was able to get my s2 trunk lock apart as Brian described but it wasn't in good shape so I purchased a new lock from one of the usual suspects, wasn't expensive as I recall. Then with some removal and replacing of the brass slides to a close match I then filed the remaining protrusion(s) so the ign. and trunk key are the same. Haven't done the doors yet as I worry too badly corroded, (but why lock an S2? It would be a inept crook that couldn't get into it)

One of the first things I did when I purchased my S3 was to get a spare set of keys made. It's a habit I have but with newer cars it's not that simple as as the RFID or similar tag embedded in the key means you can't start the car without the original (or a very expensive duplicate from the dealer )!

I ordered the keys I needed off the 'net and they arrived today. One for the boot (and glovebox) worked perfectly. Two for the door locks, both work well on the passenger side, but neither work on the driver's side Either the barrel has been changed on that side or a bit of ferkling ( an English technical term ) and some lubrication required. Have to leave it for now as other things take priority. Reasonably successful outcome though.

It's most likely that the lock in the driver's door has worn a bit compared to the other two and that's why the new key won't work.
